At the local Morrisons, if you ask to use the air pump after buying fuel, they give you a code to put in the machine and you get free air.  If you walk round the car and remove all the valve caps before putting the code/money in, there's plenty of time to check/re-inflate all 4 tyres.

What's the beef?

Yes there was a time in the seventies and eighties at least when everywhere used to charge at least 10p to use the air machine, until it became at last recognised as a service that should be given free to motorists for safety reasons, and of course, for good PR / promote petrol sales reasons!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

Would never pay again! ;)

it seems odd that the Esso charges 50p - when they're so enlightened in other ways - eg they have a basket of 1ps and 2ps for when you've stuck £50 in say, and accidently dribble over to £50.01!!! you pay £50 and they take a penny from the basket to make it up  - great idea!!!

now they're ruining the good grace built up with the 50p thing.

and i wouldn't trust a 50p machine to be any more accurate than a free one - in fact, if they're that tight they charge for it they're probably too tight to calibrate it regularly too   ::)

Being tight NFW.

In the old days carried a foot pump (thats where the butler comes in useful :y) - now a 12v compressor.

I've just been to Morry's, put air in first, X4 =20p, dont mind paying for it as you can set your psi and it puts in the right amount, then got me fuel. But as already said, when forecourt is'nt busy, I'll fuel up first, and they'll give you a free code for the airline.

Guy had a fizzy too  8-)  I had a yellow one, put ace bars on it and laid on the tank, those were the days.  ;D

Yes only once. There was no other way to avoid this. Must say I never went back to that garage again. And went out and bought my own pump. :-* :-*
