If you need that level of cooling:

a) Look at BTX cases, rather than ATX
b) You're doing something very wrong in the build.

I dont actually know that I will need that level of cooling, I am just planning ahead and planning for the ammount of heat that may come off future motherboards and then if I max the case with hard drives then I would rather have 6 redundant fans doing noting than 1 than cant do enough.

Its likely that power requirements will drop, or stay static, as energy efficiency is a big think at the moment...

The current range of SPARC chips we're using at work are pretty impressive from an efficiency point of view...

a bit chavvy.  and overkill.

many of these cases have all those unnecessary features, simply not required.

What mobo supports more than 6 hdds anyway?

And you plan on using all of them? Performance will be rubbish, bet they are all hanging off the same PCI device - baseline specs are all to easy to follow, but you need to look more at the implementation...

I have the Thermaltake Armour case and its fantastic for cooling, plenty of HDD space as well and can easily be converted to watercooling
http://thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1277&ID=1405
also had a friend add some blue Leds to the side fan for me for that nice blue glow :D

Time will tell.

My old XP 2100 has 5 drives bolted into and a dvd drive and performs merrily, all IDE at that.

Many IDE implementations will be on 2 PCI devices - 2 in Southbridge, and up to 4 on a seperate IDE chip, which Promise being popular on cheap boards.

SATA is usually done on a single chip, connected to a sinlge PCI device on cheap boards (better boards hang them off x4 PCIe channels)

Whatever you do, don't buy one of those gay PC cases with windows in the side if you live anywhere near a radio amateur. Their EMC performance is woeful. Get a proper metal box. Nothing to see inside a PC. >:(
