Gearbox off :)
« on: 27 September 2008, 21:43:41 »

Spent five and a half hours wrestling with the gearbox on the old tractor.  I'm covered head to foot in oil, atf, cuts and grazes.  I've managed a small pool of atf on the drive (so that'll add another stain to the patchwork that's there already) and taken a load of other 'bits' out the engine bay in the process.

...but it was great fun, and I've got a spare gearbox in the garage now.   Very satisfying to pull things to bits - especially in the knowledge you never have to put them back together again (usually for the drive to work the next day).

We'll just have to wait and see if the torque converter can come off tomorrow - but I'll be leaving that to the hands of a more experienced tractor wrestler  ;)

My greatest thanks to JesterRT and his magic spanner.

After a little persuading the 3 bolted TC was sitting in my boot. It then had a tour of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the West Midlands before being re-united with a 2.5TD to bring it back to it's rightful status.

Many thanks to TB for the driveplate and JesterRT for the TC.

By the way, the tour was to pick up SheWhoMustNotBeOUTBID's final upcock for this week :-/ :-/ :-X
