ok , i've finally got to the bottom of what went wrong , the engine light came on my dash so i looked in the yellow pages and found a mobile mechanic , he seemed very efficent and came out 2 hours later i was told by him the cam belt was slipping so he arranged to come back 2 days later but said i must buy the parts myself which i did from euro car parts in stevenage , he came back at the time stated and started the repair , i had to go back to work so paid him and left him to it , when i came home from work there was a big sign on the car seat saying do not start i then tried phoning him but i have never got an anwser since , so i had another local mechanic collect the car and take it back to their garage , they told and showed me that the the cam belt had been just rested on the engine and the water pump which i supplied had gone and the old one was still on and that the problem had nothing to do with a slipping cam belt but with the camshaft sensor , basically the first mechanic charged me £275 to opps my car up and i had to give the new mechanic £100 to put it right and supply and fit a new camshft sensor. so it cost £375 for a new camshaft sensor basically oh and a dent in my bonnet , not bad considering i got the car for £200
