getting rid of cigarette smell
« on: 30 September 2008, 22:55:54 »

hi does anyone have any tried and tested tricks for getting rid of stale cigarette odours from a car? did a search and found nothing... i remember someone saying leaving a lemon in a small bowl of water in the back overnight would help and giving the upholstery a good clean but wondered if anyone had tried anything else? advice appreciated. thankfully its not my omega that reeks...

i think you have answered it, you can mask it with that fabreeze stuff but itll only mask it for a while, i used my bissel carpet shampooer & done the headlining with carpet shampoo in really hot water & a cloth & wiped it all over, worked quite well, i have seen cars with pot puree in the ashtrays but again its a mask rather than a cure.

Someone once told me that leaving a bag of charcoal opened out on the back seat for a while was good at absorbing niffs. Never tried it myself but might be worth a shot.

Something to do with that left-over charcoal now the weather has turned to sh1te. ;D

I've been told that you can remove smells by covering all the carpets + seats with baking soda and leaving it for a few days. Then just vac it all up.

Dunno if it works, never tried it  ::)

Firstly I wouldn't leave water in the car over-night as some will find its way onto the windows and you know what a bu$$er that can be. Baking powder is a good bet but you'll probably find that a lot of the smell will remain in the head lining material as smoke generally goes upwards. Not sure how good Fabreeze is, but anything is worth a try! Good luck  :y

Try using one of those £10 aircon cleaners.
They remove a multitude

just aircon on, press the button and leave behind the backseat for 15 mins, come back to a fresh smelling car.

Its not easy to remove that smell permenently.

Oust! works reasonably well, then coupled with the mirror dangling fresheners that the Koso's put in when they wash my car ;D

But you will have to keep doing it.
