I should be dead apparently!
« on: 07 October 2008, 20:47:08 »

Had 3 visits to my docs in the last 2 weeks for blood pressure checks (im on tabs for it anyway)....usually only go every 6 months....
1st routine check....by a nurse....was crikey thats high....i'll book you another appointment in 2 days...
2nd check 2 days later....was its come down a bit....but i'll book you in with the doc....
Today...with the doc.....blimey 'you should be dead!'  ;D
She reckoned she'd never seen a reading so high  ;D

She reckons i suffer with 'white coat' syndrome.....which i partly agree with....i dont like going to the docs or hospital....

So outcome was.....doc is leaving my medication as it stands....but she carnt believe my blood pressure is that high normally.....so she's ordered a 24hr blood pressure monitoring kit....that i will have to have fitted when it arrives.....so she can see what my blood pressure is doing during my 'normal day'.....

Not looking forward to that either!  :-/ :'(

Just checked mine - it was 114 / 78.
Got a kit from boots for about £50, it's worth its weight in gold...

I also look at my blood sugar levels now and again..

Most uncomfortable bit of kit... its a standard blood presure cuff that goes off automatically at the set interval .... mine was every 30 minutes ... and records the data to a cassette pack. Pack and batteries clip to belt during the day .. and just get in the way at night wherever you put them ..  not that you'll get much sleep as every time you "drop off" the thing fires up and wakes you !!

Does sort out problems though .. after the test they told me there was nowt wrong that losing a stone wouldn't cure ( I was 17 stone at the time .. now down to 14 !! )

Take things steady until the results are known ..  :y :y :y :y

I do too. It doesn't really help when they look at the reading and say "break me! we'll try that again in a few minutes. Try to relax".

Hope it all goes well. I got a BP measuring gadget when they were concerned about mine (rather insurance company gave me the spanish inquisition then wondered why my arteries were throbbing away >:(). Readings at home were perfectly normal. Took them in to my GP and he said nothing to worry about.

Thats pretty good James.....tho i did tell the doc i had a wrist monitoring blood pressure device....she said they arent that acurate...apparently so she said u you need to measure it nearest the heart....hence why top of arm is used at the docs  :y

Mine was way over 200 for the top figure  ;D

Blimey - that's high - but its the bottom figure that's more important....

Mine is an arm cuff - not a wrist one :y
