Could it be the end?
« on: 10 October 2008, 18:09:41 »

G.M shares are trading at less than $5 each and $2 will buy you a Ford share. Could this be the end for G.M who where even before the current   financial crisis were in deep trouble. If they do fail the ripple out effect will be gigantic.

They have to, the legacy costs are way too high.

Maybe time to start investing in shares in the near future.

I can also see the cost of cars coming down to try and safeguard companies to get through the rough patch.

Not gonna help that much.  Dealership traffic down 50%.  Of the people that do try to buy the likelihood that they will be refused for credit has doubled.  Even if they drop prices, people won't get credit.  The low credit rating people are down to 20% success rate on getting credit approval for a car.

It may be a good time for someone with a few quid spare, and a brave attitude to buy shares.
if you buy small amounts in lots of big companies, some of them may go bust in the short term but most of them should recover to previous levels in the longer term.some of the high street names have lost almost 90% of the share value this year. If they recover that in say 5 years......kerching :-/

OTOH, some people have already tried that.  An investment company put 7 billion into a bank this spring, and the bank still went pop.  The 7 billion went poof!

Large parts of the auto industry are going to be decimated (literally,  which is not as bad as the figurative interpretation) by the end of the year, especially in the US.  Dealerships over there are going into administration in droves.
