Cheap cambelt kit - recommendations?
« on: 14 October 2008, 18:37:05 »

The next job on mine is service & cambelt.

Service is easy - it will be all Vx bits on TC. No point going elsewhere based on price and it's good stuff to boot.

But what about the cambelt kit? IIRC the Vx kit is about £125 with TC? If so - is there a cheaper way to still get good kit? The Gates kit on ebay has been mentioned - about £80.

TIA.

Gates off ebay or a contitech kit from www.buypartsby.co.uk

Consider also a water pump at the same time (buypartsby also do contitech water pumps which seem very good)

If you buy a genuine Vx belt make sure (before you leave) that it has the timing marks on the belt, if not forget it and go for the Gates. We had one (Vx) the other week and it was a real pain so we went with gates and no problems. Good luck and post the end result so others will know.  :y :y

About £100 all up for contitech (including water pump) from buypartsby. £71 without.

Having spent time doing lots of water pumps on Minis, I appreciate your advice.

Thanks.   :y

SKF kits are also good, containing Gates belts, so if you come across one at a good price go for it...

Take a look at this Ebay shop for the Gates kits for the Omega...

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/autostuff18_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ

and just bid the minimum as he's been giving out "second chance offers" on less.    :y

on the subject of cambelt kits, can someone confirm that there is only one kit for the 2.6?

Seem to remember that i had a choice with mine, but the engine number no longer exsists as it has been replaced with a R******* number
