Well, after much deliberation, I have taken the plunge and formally setup a small business, to enable me to do my Omega Mobile Mechanics venture properly.

I am fully registered with HMRC, Inland revenue etc and hold full public liability insurance for the motor and mechanical trade.

I will only be doing this part time, so availability will be a little limited, but I plan to get as many bookings in as I can and be as flexible as possible.

Please check out my new website. Please bear in mind that is is only a first draft and is still being worked on. You may not see it yet while DNS propogates. The address is www.omegamechanic.co.uk

Please bear in mind that due to the costs of holding public liability insurance, business motor insurance and all of the other costs, my prices are not quite as low as they used to be - but I will always be more competetive than any dealer or garage.

Constructive feedback welcome on any areas - I'm not the most experienced with business issues, and I think I have things covered, but if there are any business guru's who would like to offer advice, please do :y

Thanks for reading  :y
I wish you every success.  :y

For those jobs I don't need a huge tool selection, therefore could probably travel by train which would reduce the travelling costs.

Using genuine new GM parts for the camcovers, and a contitech cambelt kit, the cost - to include travel expenses, for a cambelt kit change, fitting of both banks camcover gaskets, and full breather cleanout would be £376.

Probably not the most competitive quote but unfortunately the travel costs are higher than usual due to the distance.

Still probably a good cut under dealership prices, though :y

you say that might not be competitive but where do you find a trusted mechanic that works on these cars day in day out?

and i would say that was a fairly good price!

i'll let you know in the next few weeks - i'll try and get me mum's garage sorted for the day

You're right - I probably should lead by example

.. and offset the cost as training, or kit purchased for demonstration purposes. :y

To be honest it could even be classed as a business necessity... EG, the business would not be viable without  :y

I wouldn't go as far as day in day out - but I've certainly done these jobs enough times to be competent with them!

No pressure - but if you'd like to proceed, get in touch :y

Good luck with your new business James! :y

How much would it cost you to come to Sunderland?  My cam cover gasket needs doing, it's getting urgent now!

Really hope it goes well! :y

Pm me a postcode (or your nearest train station if it's only a camcover).... I'll be doing a few introductary rates, and if train travel can be booked in advance the savings will be passed on...

Some suggestions for your Google ranking - when you get around to thinking about it.

Make sure your index.htm(l) is populated with keywords. Omega Mechanic for example.

Your site is referenced from OOF. Return the compliment - reference OOF on your site.

Work through Google Webmaster Tools Clicky

Reference any other site that has direct relevence to yours.

Search the web for Google's ranking methods.

It got my site from #13 to #1 for the search term 'Bandit127' ......

Ps  I noticed on your website at present you've not listed a tel/mob  number would think that would be worth adding on under Contact ! especially for peeps who find you online who are not Oof members ... :y

Nice one James, Us miggy owners need a mechanic who doesn't have a panic attack when you tell em its an omega.
I Was going to pm you recently to see if you could do my cam belt but saw you had injured your ribs.
So have been looking for Cam locking kit on e-gay to have a go myself. Very relieved to see you have decided to do it for a living.
Have looked at the website and like the prices. Know from the all the comments on the forum that you are held in high esteem by the members.
I will contact you through your website to arrange.
