Anyone any idea how to find a good accountant?
« on: 21 October 2008, 23:20:54 »

I need to find an accountant that will help me save lots of money.  I know absolutely no one that has one and so the word of mouth method won't work.  No idea how to find a good one that preferably won't cost a fortune to start with but do need some accounting business set up advice fairly urgently.

Don't accountants know what things you can and can't claim for though?
I have heard it said that some accountants can save you a small fortune

Could you not ask at your local bank who they would recommend?

Think it worth asking whilst your there... other than that its take your pick i suppose if no-one you know can recommend one.

i know when I used an accountant a few years ago, he got half my phone bill paid, clothes, a few meals out, all my petrol and i paid under £100 out in tax plus his £200 fee for the year. I was makimg more money in three nights than i was full time on 4 nights  :o

Depends what you want it for, business or personal. I would suggest a quick visit to the Citizens Advice Bureau  :y

There is a Contractors forum I am on where they have accountants who give advice directly, there are also some business guides designed for one-man startups (or one-woman) with info on what can and can't be claimed.

http://www.shout99.com/contractors/

Site came about through the taxman inventing new rules to take extra money from small businesses so may help
