i should add that since we cancelled our hd sub they have added another page of channels so it may be better value now. Esp.as they now have a eurosport hd channel. Loads of motor sport, but the season is nearly over now. Doh.

Vista Media Center with FreeSat tuners (and Freeview tuners) is the way to go I reckon.

Plus MCE is the best upscaler I've ever come across.

A new update, only available to OEMs (good job I work for one  :-X), now allows 4 tuners and different 'technology' types.
Fiji?
fiji what?
Is this the codename fiji update thingy they're supposed to be bringing out.
Its called something like TV Pack 2008. Released to OEMs a few months back. I understand it will NOT be offered as a download to anyone except Ultimate owners.
Hmmm wondering wether to update the XP MCE to Vista does this TV pack add much?
Its an OEM only addon to Vista Home Premium SP1, or an addon to Vista Ultimate SP1

It adds ability to use multiple technologies at same time (ie, analogue, freeview, freesat), and OOB support for 4 tuners.

It is highly recommended it is only installed on 'fresh' system.

Well, if WinTV from Hauppauge (running on XP Pro) is anything to go by, it won't have to try hard.  >:(

Still looking for a decent software package that can emulate the set and forget ease of Sky+ or Virgin's V+ while running Freeview on PC  :(
XP MCE (a modified version of XP Pro with Domain support knobbled) or better still, Vista Home Premium's (or Ultimate) Media Center have an excellent interface, reliable (XP MCE needs weekly reboots though), ability to record TV with sky planner type interface, brilliant upscaling, play DVDs, record recorded TV to DVD, music library, picture library, Xvids/Divx (with additional codec).

It does need mid range vga card to do 1920x1080 full 1080p though.

We have everything but the sport and movies, ( go t'pub to watch football anyway, don't want any excuses for staying in ) and broadband, all work well, no problems.
By the way, my local pub, which is in the middle of nowhere, capacity about 100 people, pay £842 a month for Sky and Setanta, yes you read that correctly, eight hundred and forty two pounds a month.

Yeah sounds about right, sky see it as a bit more than personal use and want the money from the extra viewing. What the pub may have been able to do is subscribe under personal use in his premises upstairs and pipe it down to the bar via a digi eye and another remote. If they let him do it now.

Lot of mixed views and experiences with Sky HD (See http://www.avforums.com/forums/sky-hd/)

After seeing sport and films in HD we wouldn't go back (but we do have feed going to LCD and a projector to make most of it) Once you've seen sport in HD having to watch ITV and Setanta footie becomes a frustrating experience though. ::)

Thanks for all the views .. but it's not going to happen now ... :(

Seems I'm "not in their area" - whatever that means - so would have to pay £17 a month for a limited broadband connection - "up to 4 Mb" line speed,  monthly limit 40GB so the package suddenly gets expensive .. in comparison to the up to 16Mb /unlimited for £10 the advertising splurge proclaims ..

I have Virgin fone and BroadBand and its great, may drop out once a year but reboot everything and alls well. I had SkyHD+ installed about a year ago and it works well. Only problem is you are paying for HD programs and theres only 8 (or close to), so is it worth it? You pays your money etc etc. I watch the sport in HD and its brilliant. HTHs  :y
