washing machine furbared
« on: 23 October 2008, 18:49:34 »

Its an LG, with the motor built onto the back of the drum.No seperate motor or drive belt.
I have stripped all the bits of the back of the machine and found that the bearing which supports the rear of the drum has collapsed.this explains why it was "walking" across the kitchen floor on tuesday night. Anyway the problem is ,I cant see how the bearing should be removed, just wondered if anyone had any experience of these contraptions.? :-/ :'(
I have driven to London today ,and have to go back later tonight,Mrs Bitz would like the wachine working before I go. ::) ::)

Dunno about LG - did an Indesit a few years ago - holding bolt had a left hand thread - once that was off bearing & assembly came out as a unit and new unit straight back in. :)

Some you can withdraw them on a carrier in the back of the outer drum.

On our ruddy Zanussi I had to split the two halves of the outer drum, which meant stripping the machine right down.  >:(

I was out of the house for a few hours ,so that may have already been tried. ;) ;D ;D
The bolt in front of the bearing came of quite easily, just cant see how to pull the bearing out. I wouldnt be surprised if it is similar to yours Kevin,in that it has to be completely dismantled to get at it. I dont mind that much if it does,I would just like to know how to proceed rather than faf around for hours getting nowhere fast.
I do have the haynes book of washing machine lies and guess what , its rather useless, doesnt even mention that type of design. ::)

Photos might be useful. :y On mine, the spindle just came straight through a tubular metal section which was moulded into the plastic outer drum. You could see the outer bearing pressed into this once the sprocket was removed, but it was clear that the drum had to be split, and the inner drum withdrawn to get the bearings out. As it turned out, the inner bearing was larger, so there would have been no other way.

Course not!
Washing machines far too expensive for Christmas prezzies.

Iron's on the other side are about the right price, and make excellent presents I'm told  ;D

I recently bought another washing machine because bone idleness prevented me from looking inside the old one when the drum wouldn't turn. As I was removing it, ready for the new machines arrival, I immediately saw the reason why the old machine's drum wouldn't turn. A small bearing on the end of the motor had completely collapsed. :-[ A new bearing from work sorted it.  :y :y

Miele is expensive but very good and work easy 10-15 years
