Been on the Car Hunt today and the result is...
« on: 23 December 2006, 23:33:50 »

I hate buying for someone else.....decided to get Mrs an alternative to the Safrane - its needing about £400 of work for its MOT - cant grumble as its needd nothing in two years.

Hard to get cars this time of year and for a second car we didnt want to spent much ( under 2k) wanted at least a 2 litre and nothing french.

Looked at a 2.5 cd omega - beautiful condition on a v reg. Got to say guys thats a seriously quick car on manual box!! feels quicker than my 3.0 mv6 auto....ultimatly at 130000 i felt it too high for the money - got him down to £1500 but walked away.

Looked at a 2.2 gls Y reg omega - wanted 2k but it had no history at 88000 and i couldnt believe how basic it was - gaps and balnks on the dash - single cd, wind down rear windows and a no trip computer etc!!!! felt it too basic and walked.

Third car and third vauxhall was a W plated 2000 vectra 2 litre sri. Unmarked body with Irmshcer side skirts, fogs, alloys and twin exhaust. Immaculate inside decent mileage and some decent toys inside. Sold to me for £1750.

May need pads and a tyre but at tc prices......cant be bad!!

So there you have it converted from rovers to vauxhalls.

And skint for christmas!!

Yep, auto box does slow things down a bit.

3.0 MV6 manual... now that is a different matter, especially in the hands of Marks DTM  :o

3.0 MV6 Auto.  0-60  9secs

2.5 Manual      0-60   8.2 secs

Do you honsetly think 0.8 seconds makes any difference in the real world??

It takes that long to change gear in a manual!!

Be more interested to comapre the 40-70 figures where most peoples driving is done.

From what ive found a 2.5 manual elite its quoted at 8.8 sec to 60 not 8.2, and the GLS is quoted as 8.5, where as a 99 2.5 v6 CD manual is quoted at 9 secs. Where did you get the 8.2 from??

I went here for the CD
and here for the MV6

I can feel a manual ("I like to be in control") vs auto gear box debate coming!  ;)
If the manual car was your own would you really want to do many full blown 0 - 60 times? The way they do them isn't exactly very mechanically sympathetic and would be rather expensive if you practiced them in every "Traffic Light Grand Prix"
