The Second World War aint even covered in our daughters school history which i think is terrible and disrespectful >:( >:( >:(

don't know what but my daughter, aged 8 has been doing something on 'Remembrance' brought a post home that she had made, quite good and had the message 'Stop all Wars' on it :-/  whilst I would agree, to a large degree, I have some concerns as to what is being said in school on the subject, dont want it to be political, though it is a C of E aided school, so that may be where that is coming from.

For me tomorrow is about remembering my Grandfather who served in WW2 but died 17 years ago at the fine age of 87.  More recently it has also been to mourn Cpl Kris O'Niell RAMC and Pte Elanor Dlugosz RAMC.  Both were lost to a roadside bomb in Iraq last year and we a part of my previous unit  :'(

my daughter came home with a poppy, but had no idea what it represented   :-/ :-/

so i sat down tonight and tried to give an overview of what happened, but how do you explain something like that world conflict to someone who is only 7 years old

A very sobering thought is the poppies dropped at the end of the Rememberance Service on telly each representing a fallen soldier.
We'll both be there at the town centre's service.

war or peace? sometimes war cannot be condemmed as it is often done with compassion for unfortunate others.
so it is well worth remembering because those that fought did not do so just for there own benefit

20million deaths in the "Great" War, 70million in the Second World War along with millions of others in countless conflicts before and since - you cannot underestimate the terrible toll of war.

We will remember them and must never forget the sacrifices made.
