planted my poppy cross at 11 today.....
« on: 11 November 2008, 20:16:43 »

i ragged it from ely today to get to a small memorial just 3 miles outside for 11oclock.  i planted my small poppy on a cross and stood for a couple of minutes while the whole world and his dog just walked by nattering !!!!
even my missus said not many people stood to observe the two minutes when she was in the town centre, never mind -people nowadays dont have to worry about getting p1ss wet through in a trench with any fears of losing their life........
just my personal opinion.....................................

I am ony 43, so obviously have no memories of the world wars. I can only be thankful to my/our forefathers what they have done for us, and what our troops of today continue to do in modern conflicts.

I was at work today and did observe two minutes silence, many did not.

Respectfully

i was sickened today to hear about a 89 yr old veteran who was lastnite held captive in his own home and beaten to a pulp for daring to stand upto a couple of intruders. if ever there was a reason for some street justice then surely this is it. these scum bags deserve everything they get and then some.

Seconded! If it wasn't for people like him we'd all be speaking german or some such now! My Grandad (rest his soul) fought alongside his twin brother, both lied to get in (they were both 17 when they signed up). Both survived the war, but my Great Uncle got a shrapnel wound to his knee and did the last 18 months in a german POW camp in Holland. I did my 2 minutes silence along with 30 staff members and 321 kids at school today :y

Before I met the 'Boss' she'd been to Belson and I've done the tourist tour at Auschwitz. I would highly recommend it but take kleenex! Went with my Great Uncle on the coach trip organised by his old batallion covering where they landed, marched and were captured, even visited the POW camp he was held, very moving.

I suppose to most people I'm only a nipper myself (25) but I have to say that I did along with a couple of other Trucker's observe the 2 minute silence. There are many youngsters out there that just don't care what these people did for us all those years ago but I myself do and I have the highest amount of respect for all those hero's that died so we could have a decent life.

God bless you all
