I am sure there is quite a simple answer to this question.
The banks all seem to be borrowing money from their governments or from the IMF to bail them out. e.g. Iceland and some East European countries. It is staggering sums that we are talking about.
So who are the IMF borrowing all of this money from!!

varche
Go to this IMF web site :
http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/exrp/what.htm#money
and go to "Where does the IMF get its money?"
and that explains all.

Lizzie , I'm afraid that page dont completely reflect the picture.. :-/
IMF as an organization is used as a tool to control the countries
And keep in mind that US have the right to produce to US$ without
any control
That may be true Cem is some respects, but certainly over many years now the UK has not been able to do without them!!

The IMF is the IMF, love or hate them they do provide the monetary "oil" to keep our economies afloat. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Lizzie , dont know much about UK economy..But believe me IMF will drink your blood within minutes while you are hand shaking..
Argentina, after giving them a proper kick corrected their economy..
As with all central systems in this globalised World of ours, some parties will not be happy, some will be very happy, and some will take a neutral view, and that's if politically and ecomomically they can agree. The bigger the UN, the EU and the World Bank, not forgetting the effects of NATO, becomes with higher numbers of members from countries, some growing in strength (China) and those becoming weaker (USA), then it is going to become far harder to reach agreements that are mutually satisfactory. That is the challenge of the 21st Century, as, if you like, the Verseilles Agreement of 1919 was the challenge of the 20th Century. The latter greatly affected that century and what happens now will rule this one.

You would have to be all seeing Cem to fully understand who or what is right or wrong and that will keep our nations politicians busy for some time to come! One thing is for certain, us the people will pick up the bill, in terms of monatary, materially. socially or bodily (flesh and blood) costs.
May the Lord protect us all!
