I get my broadband through Virgin as i don't have a landline. Why pay the rental when i've got more free mins per month on the mobile than i use? I did have one but a waste of money in my case paying BT rental & ntl call costs.
3 freeview tellies in the house though so pleased to see sky1 back. :y
Seems ok but i've nothing to compare it to. Can still go where i want & download stuff. :y
Is this any good, do you get any speed loss or is it as fast as they say?

it varies during the course of the day also routers and modems can limit speed the best way to do it is average it out over a period of time .

I'm toying with going over to Virgin, getting 20mb broadband and free calls anytime, when you take out a phone line you get their basic tv package free.
Doesn't work out any more expensive than I am currently paying Tiscali and BT.

So their claims of being no speed loss due to fibre optic cables is slightly inaccurate :-?

i would agree , i think their claims may stand up at 4:45 am on a tuesday but not when we use it most . i know for a fact that they do limit our bitrate at peak times .

pete is right , my pal works in the sky call centre and he is instructed to give upto 6 months free for a threatened cancellation . He is also told to give out movie and sports packages for six months half price if you cancel them . And if you tell them your box is broken and its out of warranty ( its your box not theirs ) if you say just cancel the subscription they will offer you a sky+ box for free .

fight the system 8-)

sorry but that is not true at all , i phoned to cancel (after 3 years with them) because my box was faulty (this they agreed with) and they told me it was £99 for a new sky+ box, so i said no thanks i will cancel and their answer was ok your services will stop on the 6th december no offers of any kind were forthcoming,
i then received a letter on the 10th of this month saying sorry your leaving what can we do to keep you so i phone them and said if you sort out my sky+ box i will also transfer phone and broadband to them, to this they replied they would send an engineer out but it would cost me £65 as box is out of warranty
what do you do?

i would of understood this if i had phoned up and been abusive etc but im a firm believer that this gets you nowhere and as such take the line , "i dont know if you can help me"

   Hi,
I'm getting about the same as you on average, and i can only receive 1meg. max. according to my ISP :(.

Have you tried FullSpeed from  www.getfullspeed.com  it's free and certainly upped my download speed infact from 4kb/s to over 115kb/s :).

Technicaly they are right, but its also based on the local exchange, if loads of people down your road are high downloaders you will get less speed.

But if your the only computer boff on your street, speeds will be higher  :y
