Check you bank statements
« on: 17 November 2008, 19:30:16 »

Just a heads up, I have just had £30 taken from one of my accounts by "O2 (UK) LTD PREPSLOUGH" Which is a o2 Top Up!! I am on a contract so I know its not me, I also know a few other people that this has happened to recently and they are not even with o2 so its not limited to o2 customers. If you search google you can find allot of other people having the same problem and if you don't catch it fast they will just keep taking £30 again & again.

Sounds like someone's cloned your credit/debit card, happened to SWMBO a while back. She told the bank who notified O2 and they credited the £30 back and set the police on the phone. Bank issued a new card too :y

Yeah the wierd thing is the card that has been done doesn't get used, I don't even know the PIN number for it and it never gets used online or over the phone so I don't know how someone has got my details.

I canceled my card and filled in a form at the bank to say it was not my transaction, just waiting now!! o2 couldn't help at all!!

Bank security is not foolproof.

Myself and Mr dusty noticed a £30 direct debit on our bank statement which we could not explain.

We asked at the counter and we were told that it was a years subscription to "caravan and Camping " magazine. ..We certainly do not read such a publication ..believe me.

It turned out that a pensioner standing behind us in the queue had the money for his magazine subscription taken from our account.

Apparently after we had left the counter the lady had not closed down our account details on her screen.

Nationwide  returned our £30 and also gave us £100 compensation for their mistake.

They also implemented a "flag" system so that they could not leave customer account details open for the next person in the queue.

So always check your statements is my advice. :-* :-* :-*

I had the same problem with my credit card. Got intouch with the bank and they sorted it out for me and refunded me with the £30.

I log on and check daily.

My mate had £7k whipped out of his Abbey National accout, allthough he got it back he was told it would never happen again.

Guess what, he just had £2500 whipped out of Annother Account with them. :-X :-X

I'll take more notice of my statements & check online more often now.
You all mention credit cards. Having had a capitol one visa & paid dearly i now only use my switch maestro debit card to draw cash & spend that. Also if you pay for your weekly shop with a cedit/debit card all your purchases are sent to some d*ckhead marketing/statistic co. (God i hate non job staff) & they know how much persil, boddingtons, air freshener down to your wife's undies & kids school uniform, what you & any family pets eat. I find that disturbing. Only you should know that, so draw cash & pay with it. :(
