GM are seriously considering selling SAAB in order to raise some capital.
Perhaps OOF could collectively put in a collective bid for vauxhall.

Never a good sign....seeing companies off lead break ever or profit making arms just raises the burden on the sectiosn which need the most help.

They should be looking at returning to profit on the areas of issue and using the profit making sections to support this and as a template to improvement.

i like the idea of us buying vauxhall if they ever sell that

step 1: make a cheap and nasty little car that costs as little as possible to produce and call it the 'corsa lite' to get sales going. 500CC 3 cylinder 6valve should do, just add an electric motor and sell it as a hybrid.

step 2: the Omega C, being rear wheel drive, 7speed manual box and a 4 litre V8 twin turbo. we could make it a hybrid with an electric motor for tax reasons and make it LPG converted as standard to save muny on fuel.

step 3: 'give' a demo model to each member of the company's board (aka us)

step 4: go into administration having sold the demo models to our other halves for £50 each

step 5: spend 2 years in prison for fraud

step 6: get out of prison then drive the car

I think we could be on to a winner here....

I was thinking more along the lines of a rear wheel drive with the supercharged V8 as used in the Cadillac.....plus a 6 speed box etc etc etc.

GM haven't a clue what to do with SAAB.

The 9-5 has been going for (apart from a facelift) 11 years so it's well overdue a replacement.

Whereas Volvo has reinvented itself from being a safe dependable car driven by Mums and Antique Collectors to a viable alternative to BMW and Mercedes.

Saab have had the same basic Range since I've been alive.  medium Saloon/Hatchback/Convertible and a slightly bigger Saloon/Hatchback.

Maybe SAAB should look at a smaller 1-series/C30 rival perhaps based in the Astra and maybe a soft roader based on the Vauxhall Antara?

You missed step 7.

Sell the business to the Chinese. Lay off the UK workforce. 6 months later, take some of them back on reduced salaries and conditions to assemble your Chinese parts in to a UK badged Chinese Omega.

Pick up a Knighthood in the New Year's honours list...

Actually, if they did launch an electric car, why not a plug in battery pack. So when it goes flat, you pull in to a service station and get it replaced for a reasonable fee. Some of the new Li-ion batteries are good for lots of recharge cycles, so this would work. So you don't need an IC engine, and you cure the range problem. Garages would also be happy as well. Shame the UK electricity supply is a bit stuffed.
