My poor son
« on: 27 November 2008, 22:18:14 »

we had our routine dentist checkup to day, seem my 8 year old son had a bit of decay in a tooth, Dentist said, out it comes!!l so as a precaution he had an xray, oh it found there was a prob with the next tooth, so dentist said "out that comes too" My boy went white, took the injections ok ish, then time for the teeth to come out, he did not know what to expect so i held his hand while the dentist set about it, (she is a very nice dentist btw) i saw his eyes welling up, then he cried, then he screamed, i felt sick for him, 20 second later it was over and he was in my arms, i was so proud of him even tho he let me know it hurt, my hand was squashed and he felt better after a min. we dint understand why his teeth were decayed as we really are carefull of what crap the kids eat, the dentist said its just a bad tooth that spread to the other one, any way, well done son

Sorry to hear of your discomfort. I have heard stories where dentists deliberately do unnecessary work to qualify for more government money.  I hope that is not the case here but it seems strange that such a young kid would need 2 teeth out

If he was touting for work he would have filled them -- extractions get them less money --- and chances are they are milk teeth and would be dropping out soon anyway.

Glad to hear all went well in the end though -- brave lad indeed. Good on him  :y

Sympathies. I'm terrified of needles & dentists so good on your lad for being brave. Ironically i can't register with a dentist, much as it scares me i would if i could.
Still have to pay full N.I. though. :(

I don't think it matters what crap you eat, as long as you clean properly afterwards. I don't know how decay could spread from one tooth to another, it can't. Decay is the tooth getting rotted thro sugar type stuff not being cleaned off. Like rust doesn't spread all over the car, it has to find exposed metal to attack.

When my lad had his first filling we question why one tooth would need filling when we'd been so careful etc etc.  The dentist's reply was along the lines of $h1t happens ...... Obviously Mr Cohen put it a loy nicer/better!  :y  :y

Sit in the chair, grab him by the nuts, and say "now,we arent going to hurt each other are we?" :y
I am pretty sure that decay can vary greatly from one person to another,I seem to have soft crappy teeth which despite normal cleaning etc,rot like an old viva.I only have 7 left on the top set and 11 at the bottom and one of those needs pulling.
My daughter also needs fillings fairly regularily despite meticulous care. my wife on the other hand has never needed so much as a filling and my son is the same, despite the fact that he used to often open beer bottles with his teeth when he was a daft teenager.
