My wife is enjoying a few months off work voluntarily thanks to the economic downturn.  Airlines such the one my wife works for have had to offer temporary sabaticals.  The idea being that those who want to find different work can do so while retaining the benefits of the airline for a while.

Now this could solve the Army's holiday transport costs. Arrange for all squadies to fly back, free of course thanks to the airlines being generous. However they have to travel in combats, armed. I doubt you will see any trouble at all

But the thought of an armed squaddie on a pressurised aircraft at 37000ft is just .......  

The US "Sky Marshalls" of the hijacking times had special weapons and training as the idea of firing a gun under those conditions is just ... deadly for everyone...  

Now, if the squaddies had their guns replaced with pick-axe handles, and a very loose set of rules ....

If you had dum-dum bullets and they didn't miss, then the impact should be spent as soon as it hit the body. Mind yo I don't think the weapons would need to be armed, just the thought that if you miss behave there's a couple of 'gentlemen who will speak to you'

The problem for cabin crew and ground staff is that the airlines have been reluctant to publicise passengers bad behavoir up until now as it was deemed bad press.  Now that things have changed trouble makers can expect to be hauled over the coals by the law and if I'm on board probably a broken nose too....

First off I would like to say I have never ever caused any problems or insulted anyone on a flight. But I would like to ask why this occurs, for years airlines have hearded people in tiny seats with no leg room, given them rotten(terrible) food and drink and put ever more rules in place, no smoking on planes, well that was done just to make the airlines more profit, not for any real safety reasons.
My last flight was in October and I really noticed how few people where on board compared to previous flights, the result was it was much quieter, more room to move etc. I understand the airlines need to make a profit, but they have done it at the expense of any real comfort for passengers. So do passengers get tanked up "to get them through the flight" but then "beer bravado" takes over ?
Basically I think this is down to overcrowding in general.

And if it ever happened on a flight I was on I would indeed help the cabin crew.
