Will anyone be watching this tonight & do you approve of assisted suicide?

Its not something that bothers me......lets be honest, death is the one thing we are all guaranteed.

I would rather this type of suicide be available than the thought of some body dying alone and some other poor sole finding them and having to deal with the mess.

To be honest, in his position, I would probably do the same thing.

I hope the documentary is presented correctly though.

To some degree assisted suicide has happened in this country for years. Many people who have had relatives pass away in hospital and been with them when they passed away "peacefully" where probably on such high dose pain killers that helped them on there way.
Now since the Harold Shipman case hospitals/doctors are to frightened to give high dose pain killers and many people passing away do so in a terrible way. My wife's uncle went this way about 8 months ago. His daughter was with him in the room and begged the doctors to help him, they refused.
She is still mentally scarred by the way he died.

I think suicide as just a way out of bad situations is cowardly.
However in these circumstances where you are no longer living just existing  and feel that you wish to die while you still have the ability to choose then its different.
I have always said that i do not want to become old and dependant, so there is no way i would want to put myself or my family through a long terminal illness. I think assisted suicide is the way I would choose to go.

No one can ever pass judgement on this subject until they find themselves in a similar situation, you can't say its wrong.

Really needs to be tightly controlled though to prevent its abuse.

Unless I'm injured in an accident, I trust I won't need assistance.  I'll do it myself.  

I really fear dementia, and I am (at present) resolved to depart under my own steam as soon as I detect it.  As for cancer and the other killers, I hope I have the strength of character to refuse treatment and just go quietly.  

I have absolutely no desire to linger on till I'm 90, embarassing my children and consuming whatever wealth I may have retained - the next generation have more use for it than I have.  

Elective euthanasia is a good thing, and it is immoral to put barriers in the way of anyone who wants to end their own life but is physically incapable of doing so.

My uppermost respect to the guy & all that have taken this path. It must be a very hard choice to make, but maybe in their circumstances it's an easy one, who knows.
Folk shouldn't be made to suffer & if any of my family need me to help in this way in the future then so be it, what ever the end out come is for me. I had to put my Rotty down a few years back & as much as it broke my heart to let her go, it was breaking my heart more to see her in the condition she was in. I most certainly wouldn't see my mother suffering, NO WAY.

If I was badly ill I would be well willing to try some experimental thingies to get better or at least usable.

The first and i sincerely hope the last time I have ever agreed with Gormless Brown.
The danger is ,if it becomes commonplace/normalised, in the future the elderly/seriously ill could feel pressurised/guilty for being a burden etc and choose this route in large numbers.
A few generations down the line governments could legislate that if you dont turn up for your appointment at the clinic upon retirement then you have to demonstrate your ability to contribute to society rather than be a drain on it.might sound highly unlikely ,but there are plenty of things which are commonplace today which would have been unthinkable 40 or 50 years ago.
