Why I drive an Omega?
« on: 11 December 2008, 07:48:37 »

Had to do a night-time return dash trip to Heathrow a couple of nights ago.
Three adults, luggage for two, three adult Border Collies (and a puppy in an airline travel crate).....514 miles at 33.8 mpg (door to door average).
On 'cruise' at 70 mph for nearly all the motorway portions (M54,M6,M5,M40,M25); I arrived home fresh and without any aches/pains or seat-sores: what a smashing long distance estate car! :y

Yes, I've done London and back in a day, dont fancy it in any other affordable car!  You can just drive for hours....get a bit achey?  blast of the heated seat will sort that out :)

Totally agree.  I seldom do a long run, but when I do so I know the Omega seats will be comfortable for the whole run.

In comparison my Dad had a couple of Rover 800s in the past (D/E plate) and the front seats in those were awful.  It was like sitting on a park bench!

got to agree, we went to workington a while back and what a comfy ride, over those hills etc. we went the ulverston way not the carlisle way. i used to go there each week as a delivery driver and the transit was a bit lumpy n bumpy, but the mig was smoooooooooooooth, and it was nice to actually use the v6 power on those hilly climbs

I couldn't agree more - I've done just under 3000 miles in the month I've owned my saloon, and every one of them was a joy (apart from an oil spill on the sliproad onto the A1 - the back end came round to say hello to the front and I nearly soiled myself!)

I love my mig. :-*

Why I drive an Omega?  Cos it was left to me in a will :p

But seriously, it is just such a smooth travelling car, cruises like a peach.  It has acted like a pickup truck these last few months and for a saloon, the carrying capacity is HUGE.

Mainly though, its the comfort.  Took a friend on a journey a couple of months ago.  He is used to modern small cars...Micra, 08 plate Vauxhall Corsa and an Alfa 156...and he just couldnt believe how comfy and smooth the Omega was.

Miggies have always been excellent cars, especially when comfortable transport for a long distance is required.

Badge snobbery will always put some people off Vauxhall ownership.

Their loss ,our gain I say. :-* :-* :-* :-*

The Omega is a comfortable car, but the most comfortable I've owned
was  Ford Granada Ghia 2.9i 4x4 with adjustable pneumatic lumbar
support.

I once drove it, in one day, from Monaco, along the Riviera, up
through central France to Calais, ferry to Dover, then right up
England to Manchester.

Arrived as fresh as a daisy, without any aches or pains, as did
my wife and daughter.

Must admit, the Omega is the next most comfortable, which as Debs
says, is one of the reasons we like and drive them.

Mig is the 2nd most comfortable car I have owned, the Senator was much more so,in a different league really.
The worst was the HS, Colchester to Stranraer only stopping for petrol was tortuous. Did Liverpool docks to Halstead in 1980 in 3 hours 20 minutes though. 235miles iirc. little if any dual carriageway for the last 90 miles when you come off the M1 at j12.
