rather Virgin Media
« on: 13 December 2008, 10:46:39 »

Last night I was experiencing what appeared to be DNS issues on the broadband connection (was unable to resolve web addresses but I could still tracert to known IP addresses).

This morning, no connection.

So I call them.

Ow yes, you were upgraded to ADSL2 yesterday!

Anyway, it dont rather work.....and it must be my end at fault apparantly.

So, it WAS all working great until THEY decided to upgrade my connection without ME knowing.

Now its broken and just happened to coincide with THEM doing an upgrade...yet it must be my end

My router supports ADSL2....its set to ADSL2....its just sat there on 'trying to connect'

You have to admire their logic. We made a change, you didn't, so it is clearly your fault it's gone to pot.

The cycle begins. You convince them your end is OK, they tell BT. BT take a week to check the line and then tell the ISP it's their problem, ISP fix it. >:(

Technical Support are so wonderfull.  They assume the end user knows nothing, they talk down to you and without being obvious they allways pass the blame on to them.

To$$ers.

As I dont use multiple microfilters I have to rip out my install and relocate it to the master socket.....just to 'please' them!

What is your setup - router by master socket using a dsl faceplate?  Else microfilters needed.

Another thing, some filters that appeared to work fine under ADSL do not perform so well under ADSL2

Or router and cordless base unit by a single socket using a single microfilter.

Feel free to call me if needed MDTM (at home, mobile not good here), if you need extra filters, advice, sockets etc, I can deliver over weekend - though it will cost you trying to get 1 working CID out of the 2 over the xmas period ;)

I have an adslnation filtered face plate.

From here I have two lengths of STP connected to the crone blocks on the rear of the filtered face plate.

One set goes to the modem router in the airing cupboard as an extension of the broadband output.

The other goes to a junction box for house wide phone distribution.

Hence, no additional micro filters required as its filtered at the master.

It should be the ideal setup as its filtered close to the inlet with good quality twisted pair to take the signal to the router (note its STP so screened also!)

I have tried

Direct connection to the master
Different filters

Finaly got through to the tech help.......they suspect a fault at the exchange so have reported to our 'friends' at openreach.....5 days to fix

Similar setup to mine, only I use SSF faceplates (as I can get them free  :-X), and my routers are in same room as the NTEs

Another great example of what I call "service enhancement" !

two other examples are :

-Wide screen Tv broadcast. What about the folk with old perfectly serviceable sets - shame they can't see the people or action at either side of the screen.

-Analogue to digital TV transmission. Before could watch a programme whilst recording another. Now have to have TWO set top boxes and Twin LNB.

Makes my blood boil.

Thats the advantage of my Media Center - to change the technology, I just replace the tuners ;)
