Quite Impressed with a sporty little Vauxhall
« on: 04 January 2007, 20:45:49 »

Dad finally got a courtesy car sorted out, he only has it for a couple of days and its a 56 plate Astra 1.8 sport.

He doesnt like it but what do you expect from the man that spends 5 figures on a Kia  >:(

And on Saturday he has to take it to be replaced with a Daewoo Matiz  :o :o :o

Anyway

Electric folding mirrors and auto dip rear view mirror
sat nav
rain sensitive wipers
sports auto box
leather interior
Folding key on the keyfob.
Lights that come on automatically

Closing the doors gives a big car appeal a real THUNK when they close not in the least tinny and flimsy
Dont yet know how it drives.....im still working on it  ;)

next door has a '04 plate new shape Astra.

Its the 1.7 CDTi, he can get 60mpg over a tank!  :o

Never driven on, sat in one at a Vx dealer. Quite nice inside, although not as comfy as the megga, my legs felt a little squshed.

Love to drive the 2.2 petrol version!  ;)

No major build quailty issues with either the G or the H (I personaly prefer the G)

Is the hire car the VVT engine.....quite a revvy little beast that one....

First Astra H I had was hire car in France (when MV6 broke). Was a diesel, went well (obviously not same league as MV6), had obviously been in a major incident (most panels dented - I was in a hurry to do 400 miles from Dijon to Calais in 4.5hrs, really couldn't be bother to try to argue about the car in French). Good car, felt solid.

However, I've seen a couple of Astra H now (as I have CANdi for my Tech2), and they seem to start rattling and silly trim coming apart type issues.  You do not see this sort of thing on the Astra G - the G just seems better built in my (very limited) experience...

And it was an 8v.  My mate had a yellow 1.2S and that went much faster  ;D  Engines were smaller in the old days Tunnie - what was your family driving when you were 5?

Slower than the 1.6 NA Diesel I delivered a few and I absolutely hated the 1.2 Astra - it looked like a Chevette engine, 1.3 was better 2.0 was over powered and the chassis could not cope with the power.

I used to like delivering 2.0 Carltons - delivered a carb 1.8 auto compnay car once and the recipient moaned about the colour, I said stuff that it is too slow! Should have got a 2.0
