cameras in cars?
« on: 03 April 2008, 22:51:35 »

hi gang

i agree it would be a bit big brother to make it compulsary, but i have been toying with the idea of fitting camera's around my car.

Reason being , I am seeing sooo much terrible, dangerous driving .. it would just be a way of proving your innocence if one of these plonkers were to run into you, etc..

Firstly, are there any question marks over the legality of this? is it "invading privacy".. etc

secondly, anyone recommend anything that could do the job? :D

A lot of American insurance companies require a camera in a car, i think it is a good idea...as you say it would help proving who is at fault..it could also go against you ;) ;)

I think you can get a system that hangs on the rear view mirror and stores the last few seconds before an accident. May even upload it to the internet so it can't be destroyed if the car is broken into.

well, if you thought it would go against you, you would keep shhh that it was in the car ;D

however, when i was overtaken on rover way - blind bend, double white lines - at about 70mph by some nutcase who ran outta road and cut me up - the camera could be crucial if there was an impact...

Know it well...it can be a bit mad on there at night...there are a few gypsy camps on there and they dont give a dam when using that part of Rover way.

Hi, i install security equipment cctv, alarms etc and the auto spark who works in my wholesalers has been building what the police call rat traps for the past 6 months, they baisically put 4 hidden cameras built in inside the car with a recorder and power supply in boot, then put either a lap top or sat nav syetem in the car leave it on show but have a tracker built in on it.

So not only do they get a nice clear image of the guy taking the lap top or sat nav out of car, they will track him to his bosses and catch more crooks which is all good.

So dont worry about all the privacy sh*t you will be fine.

There are a few insurance companies in the uk looking at the system due to amount of claims...........so you would not be able to keep shhhh if they went that way of making it a requirement ;)

they can come as a kit with a camera that will save the last 15 seconds or so before an accident automatically, or if you witness something that wont trigger your camera, you hit a button and it saves the last 15 seconds or so. These kits also monitor things such as your speed, location and even when you use your lights and indicators

would be a damn good idea if it dropped my insurance by 75%!!!
