Problems with BT.
« on: 03 January 2009, 20:53:50 »

Requested a line Reactivating at my mums address....previously a BT customer so was told it would be a straight forward Home movers package.

Line due too go live 29th December...line still dead on the 29th so in the last 5 days ive had too make over 8 hours of calls from a mobile and been constantly assured the line was active only too be told today and i quote...

""We have today asked BT open-reach too repair a fault at the exchange this will take place on Monday the 5th January""

When asked why they couldn't have told me that on the 29th was told ""No idea...its being fixed so whats the problem""......oh i do hope that call is recorded as letter of complaint being typed tonight ready for posting Monday morning.

Ive looked for the email address of the CEO of BT but no luck as yet...anyone know what it is.

Going too contact OFTEL as i think costing me £24 and 8 hrs of my time over 5 days is just a tad excessive and too be spoken too by both curt and damn right rude staff is unacceptable.

Basic short version here but full story starts on the 18th December when i learnt a third party had been given access too my account (dont you just love Indian call centres) and allowed too close my account...and since then messed about regards line being reactivated...never happened...Told that i was still liable for line rental despite them disconnecting by mistake and failing too rectify the problem and repeated promises too call back that never happen.

As a side note was told that Open reach isnt part of BT and is a independant comapny who works for ""who ever""....so why are they called BT Openreach. :-?

I think you maybe within your rights to ask BT for £10/day compensation for failing to deliver on promised date.
I know they will cough up £10/day for a missed appointment.....happened to a neighbour of mine a while ago....he wanted a 2nd line installing....BT made appointment and then turned up a day early!!....posted a card thro his door to say they had been  ::) He wasnt in......but was on the correct day.....they didnt show. He waited a week, coz he wasnt in a hurry for the other line....then called and made another appointment.....15 days after the missed appointment he got his extra line installed.....he got £150 compensation  :y ;D

Because OFCOM are an incompitent bunch of useless tossers, and wholly ineffective at creating compeitition in the market, and so rather useless at their job they have recently had to have a name change (from OFTEL).

Now OFCOM, being the ineffective, useless bunch of tossers that they are, felt they needed to justify their existence.  So did they try to stimulate competition? Did they break, the useless tossers.  They said 'BT' were no longer allowed to run their own network. Why? break knows - they think that may somehow stimulate competition (I'll come back to that).

So, Openreach, are not allowed to be part of 'BT' (although financially they are under BT Group, they are a seperate legal entity and have to be run as an unrelated business).  So, if you want to know why Openreach are not part of BT, its because OFCOM say so.

So, how will this stimulate competition?  I think by ensuring 'BT' cannot do its job, and ultimately pissing off customers because this, people may go to another provider.  Trouble is, the oppswits at OFCOM don't realise that outside of large towns, BT is the only option.  So instead of a slick company being able to sort out issues, you have 2 that are regulated in such a way that they are simply not allowed to work together effectively.

So if you feel you need to tear someone off a strip, pick up your none working phone, drive to London, and shove it right up Lord Currie's jacksie, whilst calling him a pointless, incompitent, useless idiot.

And no, I don't work for BT or Openreach (used to though, so know the setup and the tight integration of the systems that now have to be pulled apart into 2 seperate entities).

dont get me started on bt ether.

but..........make sure in your letter you put that you want a reply within so meny days and send the letter with a received slip for you that they post back in a self addressed envalope that you have supplied. post 2 copies one via normal mail and one recorded then they wont have a leg to stand on. oh you can also bill them for wasting your time and having to wait in for engineers that didnt show.

i know some one who has done this before and they have to legally pay out (as long as its a resonable amount) and hubby does the reply slip all the time.

good luck keep us updated

On the upside, you get a set amount a day in compensation (only a few quid) if its residential.

If its a business line, you caan claim for actual finacial loss

Well the biggest issue is the guy in the Indian call centre was quite insistent that i was the one who requested the line too be disconnected in my property...repeatedly stated i hadn't and he repeatedly said it must have been me.

UK call centre state this is impossible due too data protection, yet 50% of the calls ive made ive been allowed too discuss my account without going through any security questions other than ""what number are you calling about"".......oh and lucky i know the 3rd party taking over the line in my property as im now renting it too them.

Ive been told by numerous people including managers that the line was live and tested as working including texts from BT engineers stating work carried out and line now active.....only for phone line too be dead, its only today ive been told open reach will deal with it Monday.

So quite clearly been fed a load of thingy and bull for 5 days.

The Boy does OFCOM/OFTEL have any real authority over BT....id have thought someone being allowed access too my account would be a breach of  data protection.?

Seriously considering canceling contract with BT due too there incompetence...im still under contract would the numerous problems encountered be enough too justify breaking the contract legally. :-?

If you feel that data privacy has been breach, BT, like all corporates, have a data protection group who would be very interested. Or try http://www.btplc.com/thegroup/contactbt/index.cfm - you may be able to find a contact number - I would try the 0207 number, and ask for Chairman's Office.

OFCOM, in all fairness, are as much use as a used johnny smeared in dogshit.
