Anyone have a PSP?
« on: 04 January 2009, 13:43:07 »

We are looking at getting a PSP for the children, and as usual it is information overload on the internet.

1) What is the difference between the different versions?

2) How many different users game saves can it handle?

Thanks

Different versions apart from color nothing i can tell i have the original black V1.0 and the Mrs has a white V1.3

it can handle as many user saved games as the memory stick can hold!

and if you get the original v1.0 it can chipped i believe ;)

So 5 people could have their own saves and worst case their own MS?

I have the newer 3000 series which is supposed to be a better picture and have a mic etc......
I have a 4gb card (£12 from Amazon) which holds films/pics/mp3 and all the game saves with no problem at all.

I've got one i never use anymore - a black PSP 'slim and lite' - not the absolutely latest one. No box, but leatherette carry case, power supply, 1 Gig Memory Stick (I think) and a few games... let me know if you're interested!

Just bought one for Lynne.

If you have a ps3, get a slim & lite one. It connects to a ps3 wirelessly.

DO NOT buy the "Base" PSP, Its the old original psp with no wireless inside

To tell them apart, the "base" one has a speaker grill above the screen, the "slim & lite" does not

As for memory cards, dont buy the branded ones, I got a 8gb stick from ebuyer half the price of a shop bought one. Look for the "memory stick duo pro"

I had a prerelease one (long story), had a great driving game (about only game nearly ready at time), but gave it away as soon as I was allowed to....

Not sure where you got that info from but mine is a first release with software version 1.0 (got it December 2004) and it has wireless and connects to my PS3, think they all have wireless, just the software updates as to getting PS3 connectivity

Version 1.0 and 1.5 software can be used for 'home brew' and is easily hackable for other things, 1.53 onwards cannot (well thats how it was last time i looked), thats why my Japanese one plays all games and all UMDs.

As for saving games, as long as the game has multiple profiles (most do) then its only affected by the size of your memory stick, 4Gb M2 cards with a Pro adapter are around £12 off the 'bay'
