Motorbike clutches are designed to be slipped, ......

:-?  :-?  :-? Generally wet basket rather than a car's dry, but does that mean that they're designed to be slipped?

Thats what i was told at training....

Yes, they are designed to be feathered for low speed stuff.  Surprising difficult to shag a bike clutch, unlike car ones

ER5, although fairly torquey like most 500 twins, doesn't liven up until 6k rpm.  Low redline of about 10k IIRC.

I think tunnie means feathering the clutch, as you do on slow speed manuevers such as mini roundabouts - often with a bit of rear brake if you need stability.

Tunnie, if ever you go on my bike, do NOT drop it to 2nd and floor it - I reckon you'd be dead within 5s ;D

More tomorrow?

Yeah, nothing but manoeuvrings tomorrow.

I am feeling better about the turn in the road, carpark i had trouble with them on 125, found it easier on the ER5!

I could do it at the top of the car park, when i had a curb to look at, always fcked up the bottom one (nothing to fix on)

Out on the road, i looked where i had to put the bike and it went there, was really chuffed about that cause i was finding them hard in the car park.
ER5, should be able to do u-turn on full lock without issue...

Which means, even my road is wide enough for a u-turn (on an ER5)

Most certainly treat the throttle with respect.
Look at it this way...the average multi-bucks super car is about 4+ secs to 60mph.  Any 1000cc sports bike will do it in less than 3.
Even a 500cc comuter bike will leave the average "Hot Hatch" up to 60mph.

Glad you're enjoying it Tunnie... You'll never regret getting the license but will spend a lot of time "coveting" other bikes ::) ::) :-X :-X :y :y

I learnt on an ER5... Very forgiving really... Next bike I rode was a CBR600 and I made the mistake of nailing it in 2nd like I did on the ER5... Had to change my pants after that but taught me a vital lesson... Treat it with respect :y :y :y

My ER5 with a fatty on the top would deal with MGZT 190 I used to see every morning.  Couldn't deal with the Monaros though, or the DB9 around the corner (live in a town full of Monaros and Astons).

Now, the ZX10.......

i really liked the ER5, nice and easy to ride, more so than the 125cc thingys.

Had plenty of poke to scare me silly, i am seriously considering getting one if i pass my test.

They can be had for sub 1k too, so not expensive either.

A Porsche was being an arse soon after I got the ZX10, we were doing around 90. So, in 4th, I gunned it (nicely in the power band). Almost slipped off the back, couldn't get forward enough to release throttle or change up.  Redlines at 140 in 4th.....

Any of the 500 twins would make an excellent first bike.  I'd advise against going for anything much more powerful, or more expensive.  I hope you never fall off (trust me, it hurts), but its likely you'll drop it pushing into your garage, or a silly low speed drop (eg, heavy front brake at low speed corner)

I had it so easy, passed the single part test on a 550 with a sidecar attached - even argued with the examiner about proper use of brakes on a corner - and then a week later had removed the sidecar and was blasting around solo...
