I need a 2nd Key for my Omega
« on: 10 January 2009, 08:25:01 »

Hi - my Omega only has 1 key and I would like to get a 2nd key just in case, can I get one done on the high street? or is it vauxhall only? I am aware that the fobs detach from the keys but its the actual key shaft that I want to get cut somewhere.

Regards

You can get the key blanks from ebay for around a tenner, I got mine cut on the high street for a couple of pounds, just leaves getting the immobiliser programmed. This can be done at a dealer but you'll need to remortgage Buckingham Palace for it, or there are a few people on here with the computer software to programme it for you. You'll need the car pass either way with the engine pin

Thanks Benbrunt, I have the keypass - got that before xmas from my local dealer - is the immobilzer in the key blank part of the key?   And do any of the national key places supply the blanks and cut the keys?

I had to try a couple of high street places to get the Omega key cut, couple couldn't do it as it's internally milled. Don't know if they supply the base unit, if you don't need remote central locking you should be able to get hold of one of these

But make sure it has the immobiliser chip in it, as it's the same design as the earlier key which didn't

I have two keys, but only the one will start the car ,open the doors etc etc.
Do I need to go to a main Vauxhall dealer with the car and the spare key to get it sorted.

If so, any idea how much this would cost.

Thanks Dusty. :-* :-* :-*

Blank keyblades are normally available in the OOF shop, with or without the required transponder chip.

A competent proper locksmith (not just your local shoe repair/keycut place on the High Street) should have the kit to cut the keys.

Once cut, requires being coded to the car by Tech2, either from one of the 4 sets here on OOF (check who is closest) or from a VX dealer at their current rates.

The press button alarm fobs also require to be set up to the car so that you now have a fully working key.

That depends on whether the key has been coded to another car, if it's a new immobiliser chip then it's easy to do. If it's been coded to another car previously afaik then it's not possible to code to another.

It's easy enough to cut and code with a tech 2 or "My Naff Code Reader" and there's a few on here who can do it for you

That is incorrect.  It makes no difference if the transponder has been previously coded to another car. Whether new or 2nd hand, it has to be coded via Tech2 type equipment.

You'll need to have it with the car so the laptop can be plugged into it
