The food police are on their way...
« on: 11 January 2009, 13:20:24 »

...if you live in Herefordshire or Worcestershire.

Householders are to be visited by officials offering advice on cooking with leftovers, in a Government initiative to reduce the amount of food that gets thrown away.

In an initial seven-week trial, eight officials will call at 24,500 homes, dishing out advice and recipes. The officials, each of whom has received a day's training, will paid up to £8.49 an hour, with a bonus for working on Saturdays. The scheme will initially cover six council areas in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

What leftovers?

If there are leftovers they are being fed too much.

We throw VERY LITTLE food away

A 32in CRT, the biggest available, would use 322kWh.

Must be a 36 inch foot spa my parents have in their living room then. ;)

One of the real problems is the introduction of the "use by" date. It means that tonnes of perfectly edible food is lobbed, merely because of a label. Remember that there a large "safety" margin built in to these dates but it has had the effect of instilling fear into most people, who believe that eating a pie that's been in the fridge for one day longer than the label says will cause immediate food poisoning.
