Bloody Vista
« on: 13 January 2009, 21:54:45 »

I have a host of crappy old computers running XP, from 600mhz laptops to Intel 1.8Ghz dual core mac mini.... i have never seen XP blue screen since i was at college 6 years ago, and we were registry editing at the time.

All of the XP machines get hammered and have tones of clutter installed...but never crash.

But Vista, few months out of the box? Its crash happy, blue screens several times a day, it makes a fairly powerful machine run like a sack of spuds...

My 3 year old mac can boot up, load Firefox, google something, and the be shut down before Vista boots up! & my mac has tones more applications and junk on it than Vista.

All she has on it (its my mums Vista laptop) is MS Office suite, thats it!!!!

The laptop with Vista on, is getting a rebuild this weekend with XP!

Assuming not a crap 3rd party driver, it will be a hardware fault.  What is stop error?

Vista is probably the most stable desktop OS I've come across, never, ever had a crash on it.

I was too drunk to notice what the error was, happened to me just now. Mother tunnie said it occurs several times a day.

Dell 17" laptop out of the box, we put office on it, and AVG, thats about it, all she does is surf, and do documents.

XP on desktop, vista on lappy.....best i leave it in the bag then.

Must try harder to use it, scared of it for some reason, lappies just feel odd to me! I'll try again soon, gotta adjust to it, everyone else seems to have done. ::)

new systems have a better IRQ arrangement.. so you dont have big problems..if it was some 4-5 years ago it would be a nightmare..

Crappy old 3Ghz P4, 2 scsi cards (long story, but based on laziness), 1 digital tuner, 1 analogue tuner. Also pci soundblaster.

That machine never blue screened under vista. BSOD'd under XP recently, but I'll put that down to the smoke bellowing out of it ::)

Been running Vista (Ultimate) since it came out and can probably count the number of BSOD's on one hand. You must have a conflict in there somewhere or faulty hardware.

Take out all the non essential cards, and add them back one by one until you get the BSOD again.

Also, have you tried looking in the event logs to see what's going on?
