E-Bay question

I Was out bid on a car (for my brother) yesterday .The seller rang me today saying the winning bidder has let him down and did i still want the car .My question is this if you agree to buy an item and you don't what happens ,what are the consequences if any

go & look at the car before handing over money, if you find it aint EXACTLY what was advertised then you can walk away as his description wasnt 100% accurate :y

Nothing will come of it as YOU were not the registered winner. Someone elso was. So from now on in you are nothing to do with Ebay, you are just technically someone who has just walked in off the street  :y

yeh keep it verbal as you're not the official winning bidder and i'd say dont respond to the second chance offer if there is one, have a good look at the car and even haggle

not much come-back that way

Unless he makes, and you accept, a "second chance Offer" -- which will then make you the winning bidder, bound by normal eBay rules.

Most likely, the tosspot was shill bidding his own auction to get the price up.

Ebays 'rules' are only bindind if your daft enough to let them be, esp where cars are concerned. I went to London to see a jag a few years back, I just didn't like the look of it. I noticed that a headlight lens had a crack in it, he'd described it as 'perfect'. Game, shot and match. Still cost me a day and my train fare but I didn't mind too much as I travelled back with my three grand safely tucked in my pocket.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, I declined, but a search of their local Auto trader on the net showed it for sale, by the new owner, a few days later.
I was quite relieved I got out bid, in some ways, as it was an Austin Gypsy and swbo may have had something to say..... ::) ::) ::) ::)
