Who Has the Sony Experia X1
« on: 19 January 2009, 08:25:39 »

I saw someone with the X1 yesterday at the chester meet, ment to ask what it was like but forgot. It seems to get bad reviews for being a bit slow?

Looking for an upgrade to my Diamond but tbh, not many phones are upgrades, more like downgrades. Gonna have to be summat special for me to get rid of my Diamond. Touch HD is most likely candidate.  :y

Contenders are:

HTC Touch HD
HTC Touch PRO (Bit bulky in depth though)
Sony Experia X1

Twas me!

Bought it to replace my current outdated rubbish phone.
Flashed it with generic firmware the same day I got it.

The Vodaphone firmware is a tad slow at times, its very restrictive (you can't use WiFi for MSN Live for example), they tie in the Vodafone Live rubbish so much it makes some things misbehave...

As I got it for use on another network this was no good to me, so I had it flashed with the generic SE firmware.  Another reason I flashed it was because they also locked you out of editing/creating new data profiles, so trying to set up MMS/GPRS settings was impossible.

Since then, its run quicker, been better, and feels more like it should without all the gay network restrictions!  Lovely phone to have tbh, camera may only be 3MP, but I've got an SLR for that, the phone camera is purely for quick snaps of randoms.

Keyboard took me about a day to get used to its size, but it makes writing texts or anything else a breeze!  Much better than onscreen keyboards.

The only thing Vodafone on the handset now is a little sticker on the battery cover, there is no other trace of that blasted network anywhere :)

oh btw...

they come ready sim-unlocked if you do get the Voda handset!

i've one too, and i think its a decent little phone.

had a htc touch pro, and sent it back as i found it unusable.

i'm using the vodafone firmware and still find it ok, even set up my own data connections, so if you did flash the SE firmware i'm sure it'd be even better.

You got further than me then (or stayed at it longer than the minute I could be bothered before flashing it)

Did you do the WiFi registry hack for the live services??  Heard mixed reviews on that (plus I'd still flash anyways as I'd want something more permanent...)

I've got TomTom 7.9 on mine, runs perfect :)
Also Skype (useful) and a few other bits (including XperiaTweak)

btw

Don't get the Torch program (or if you do, DONT run the torch on Full Power) there are people out there who report back saying it damages the vibration unit as it 'melts' the insides...  :o

mobiles.co.uk are infact phones4u, but makes me wonder why the X1 is only vodafone on P4U... Probably some gay network promotion...
