the 2.2 cant be papercliped which counts that out for me. So only leaves a v6, and if your going to do that may as well go the whole hog with a 3.2 elite, if you can find one. Just be aware drive by wire and coil packs are more expensive than the throttle cable and leads/ dis set up on the 3.0. But on the other hand the 3.2 has no egr, no secondary air and is a bit easier to work on (imho). 2.6 is the same drive by wire engine.
Haveing owned a 2.5 and now a 3.2 the difference in performance is marked, for example with a constant throttle mid corner you can jab the pedal and play with the rear end as the power responds, no real response at all when you do that on a 2.5 by
comparisson. It really does shift for a big road car on the motorway.
Because of the higher diff ratio in 3.2.
For me 4 pot models are only good with manual gearbox. Otherwise it's just too slow and petrol consumption is to high.
V6 are ok, same 2.6 and 3.2. These are more expensive to service than 2.5 and 3.0 (and less spares available on the market due to production only within 2 years).
3.2 have a cat problems which not occur in 2.6.
new engines and autoboxes are smoother and more quiter than old ones.
If you find a decent ELITE, go for it, but many CDXes have most of ELITE's toys and can cost less.
Apart from that it's your preference.
