Corrosion Warranty
« on: 22 January 2007, 13:19:37 »

With my confidence boosted by members' previous successes at getting Vauxhall to repair rust bubbles I met with the service manager at the local dealers to discuss the bubbles on mine. I tried the "haven't got my service book with me" gambit but he stuck to his guns and said he wouldn't even come out if I didn't have a service record. He then very calmly explained that even although the car had a full service history that the failure to get the car checked every year at the main dealer had voided the waranty. Just to add insult to injury he pointed out that even if I had had it checked every year the original owner had missed the first inspection so the warranty was voided before I got the car at 16 months old.

Not at all please given that the sunroof surround is bubbling as well but to be honest I think I would prefer to take the hit and get the repair done at a decent paint shop and get a better job done.

Just another warranty con to watch out for I guess, better check the service book for the other car as well.

It has been discussed before, I believe that both Auto Addict and Taxi Driver had their rust problems repaired under the 6-years anti-perforation warranty in spite of having no recorded annual checks. Key points are:

1. Try a different dealer - some dealers do not insist on the annual inspections being stamped in the book - and that's from other memebers' experience.

2. Try contacting Vauxhall Motors directly - again from other memebers' experience VM have proven to be helpful in similar circumstances.

However, keep in mind that this is not the last hurdle to overcome - after you find a dealer that will we willing to deal with this issue under warranty, you will need to get them to agree that the actual damage is covered. Anti-perforation warranty is just that, and if the the rust did not perforate the metal they might say it is superficial and not covered...

But generally speaking it is more about finding a co-operative Vx Dealer, and they do exist... so don't give up just yet.

As MJ says try another dealer......i had the tailgate on mine done under warranty....vx dealer didnt even ask to see the service book! And i know they didnt have a sneaky look.....coz i dont carry it in the car!

The only time i have had to produce anything is when they changed the radio/cd under warranty.....i had to call in a few days later with the old car pass..... then they gave me the new one.

At the time it had full vx service.....now it hasnt so i might run into probs with any further rust problems if the vx dealer wants to check the book in future....but hopefully they wont be bothered too check!
