I know I'm gonna regret bumping this back up, but a couple of valid points unanswered...

Abbreviations.

We are an internet car forum first and foremost, therefore we couldn't possibly ban well known and long standing 'net abbreviations (eg lol, imho, afaik), nor could we ban car abbreviations (eg, HBV,ICV,ECU).

We are not a mobile phone site, and don't cream our jeans everytime a new firmware comes out for a N95 - plenty of other sites on the net for that - so no need to use their gay language here.

Computer speak is borderline, but then I suppose computers and internet are interlinked.  Probably an element of sour grapes in there, as computer threads bore me to tears, but like everyone here, I have to take the rough with the smooth.



As to the apparent childishness of the the wording on the censor, all I would like to point out, is the sledgehammer has cracked the nut, where as all previous attempts failed.  If thats the way we have to do things around here, I may as well rm -rf / and put the hardware and my time to more worthy uses.  If people are either too lazy to read a few simple rules (posted at the top of every board), or too full of themselves to think it doesn't apply to them, then the sledgehammer solution is the last resort. Before packing up and going home.

Personally I agree with TB. Text speak is for exactly that... Texting! And even then I think it should be banned! It's impossible to read and bugs the hell out of me! It saves fractions of a second when you're typing on a keyboard!

I'm afraid I find this 'dangle berries'! The forum rules are there for a reason... If people read them and stuck to them it'd be much easier for all of us.

As for the text filter... Yes it's a little annoying (and very funny IMO!) but it does appear to be working! Have you noticed how few posts now contain text speak?

Yes, and there will always be instances when, for whatever reason, a simplistic word filter is less than ideal.

That said, its a well known fact I often use OOF in the bath, and I have to type one handed then.

I dare anyone to comment on that last remark.  

Your going to drop it in the bath one of these days.
