I have an Intel 64bit single core still running 32bit XP pro.

I bought a quad core board and cpu / memory off a mate a while back but have a problem with it so put it to one side till I get time to check it out after I move.  Looking forward to comparing the 32/64 Systems on it.

Phenom is 64 bit, as are all modern chips other than the really cheap stuff.

I would stick to 32 bit Windows, unless you have a need for 64bit. Same really for Linux.

atm all its been used for is abit of surfing and an ICS server for the PS3!

i skimped on the GPU only got a crappy cheap Geforce 8600

i want 64bit Linux so that  the bloody thing uses my RAM properly and not just 3/4's of it!

Cool I got a 9600 GT runs things very smooth at about 50-70 fps, might think about upgrading it though.

There are 64 bit 'flavours' of Linux out there..I,m using Mint 6 64bit now...Ubuntu spin off,the best.
I was a huge fan of PCLinuxOS,unfortunately they have no plans for 64 bit as yet.
Most of the major 'distro's' have a 64 bit version.

If you want an all singing and dancing release then try Ultimate Edition Linux.

32bit Linux can handle 3.5G without issue. Like Windows, there are ways to go to 8G under 32bit as well.

Biggest 2 problems with 64bit OS are driver support (Linux isn't too bad - better than XP64, but lagging behind Vista64) and 32bit app performance.

Saying all that, if you want to use Linux (any flavour), you need as much memory as you can get to reduce the times between it swallowing it all :P
