Annother Vx in my family.
« on: 19 March 2009, 20:14:15 »

My Brother rang me today.  Seems he has treated himslf to a 9 month old Vectra SRi Estate.  1.9 Diesel 150BHP

Seems well chuffed with his self.  He has had a 406 1.9 HDi for the last 9 years  and was happy with that, only collectrd the new car this morning, set the cruise on 80 and kept having a  play with loud pedal.  Still returned 44.1 mpg overall

Went on the tell him about my trade club card and made his day.

hehe, he went out again this afternoon in the 406, didnt sound too happy with the old motor compared to the new one. ::)

he's over the moon with it, just needs to get a load cover for it before he starts to put anything in it.

He will need to keep an eye on one common fault on the 150 diesel and that is the Dual Mass Flywheel. There is/has been an issue with the amount of torque on this engine causing the flywheel to disintegrate. So he needs to listen for any clutch rattle and odd things happening - clutch may seem not to disengage.

Front springs are another common fault on Vectras and Signums.

The VX price for DMF and clutch replacement is £1500 plus - many are done under warranty but some guys are just out and get hit. Even when it goes in warranty they photograph the damage and are looking for driver abuse to avoid paying up.

My Signum developed a fault at about 4000 miles from new - VX said no fault - whole thing collapsed at 16000 miles a few months later and they had to replace everything. Despite that - great cars and I would have another.
