** I Have A Project!! **
« on: 28 January 2007, 23:06:49 »

Right, it's about time some luck came my way.

As per the title, trauling eBay for a project late tonight, I found a 2.0 manual CD Omega, with a multipoint sequential LPG kit, and it's only located 35 miles from me.

Body presentable, interior immaculate. Doceumented cambelt kit change recently. 125k miles. But I'll probably change it all again so I'm sure, and also water pump as well.

I'm going to fit my new leather interior anyhow.

It was on eBay before, and I lost it. But the buyer was a timewaster, and it was relisted... and.. this time I won it, for an absolutely cracking price!

The MOT has expired, apparently nothing serious needed for a new one, so I guess "I pays my money and takes my chance" as officially it's a spares/repair car.

I spoke to Mr Imber about certification and checking over the LPG, who appeared more than happy to look over it with me and advice/help me get a certificate, which is fantastic...

I have no problems disclosing what I paid... but before I do, I'd be interested if any of you can guess what it cost! ;D

Only downside, is that although it's declared as one of the latest gas kits worth nearly £2000, I'm not 100% convinced it's an Sequential GI, simply based on the low price it sold for. Realistically, as long as it runs on gas I don't care a hoot, for the price I paid for it!!

Wanted to experience a manual for a while either.

Collecting it on Monday/Tuesday hopefully, so, once I get it home, look over it etc, then I'll book it into an MOT, that will be make or break (literally!) time.

If it all goes Pete Tong, then I could sell the gas kit for twice what I paid for the whole car probably!!

Martin - if you read this, then I'll drop you a PM with more details tomorrow, or when I get it..

Everyone - won't be any news for a little while because I'm on nights, but - updates to follow!!!

Pics below, so you can see:

Once it's on the road, all the CDX toys will be coming over from the V6.. such as the CD changer etc....

Aye, but hopefully if I can run one at 39p a litre, It will be financially viable for me to remain behind the wheel of the best car ever made ;D

Quite nice looks like my old Blue CD 2.0 :y

SGI is quite easy are there 4 injectors or 1!

Injection systems generally rely on car ECU so sequential injection is easier than not if you know what I mean. Also buying bits you get to see that a professional install is 50% labour.

I'll show you the filter and ICV cleanup as well.

The 2.0 is not a bad engine, a little low powered but perfectly liveable I have done over 50,000 miles in 2.0 Omegas, I even towed a caravan successfully with an auto including overtaking overladen diesel people carriers on Telegraph Hill.

If it needs certification or setting up beyond me (I can only do setup not requiring gas analyser) I will get onto Bernard on the Yahoo LPG group, he is based near Honeybourne or Church Lench and is used to dealing with DIY installs and servicing other peoples installs.

I may have a spare gas station book, I'll look it out for you.

Those will be non projector head lamps and to be honest they are not very good!

I reckon you paid £400 :y

If it is solid it would be worth getting mini facelift projectors fitted.

I sold mine due to the lure of a V6

I understand you can't do the cert, but I remember you saying you know a man that can - that's fine with me....

It would be really good to meet up and get you to see what you think, sometime after I collect the thing.

I'll be sure to drop you a PM!

Prices have risen a little currently paying 41p a litre but then I paid 89p a litre today as well to get rid of low fuel light.

One thing I have found is that the heater robs the evaporator of hot water on mine, so need to keep to low throttle openings from cold until at working temperature. Then it is OK.

Mine went all summer very reliably but has been tempermental this winter, I have a few fixes but waiting for warmer weather

It's the way the market is, so I was able to exploit it!

LPG or not, an N reg 2.0 Omega that needs an MOT (so assume it will need some tinkering) .. is not going to go for much money at this time of year!!

Thankfully though, I've got so many spare omega bits of the donors, including 3 really good tyres on the CDX alloys etc... MID...

If the car passes an MOT then I will get some better lights..

I wouldn't have gone for it, but it looks so tidy in the pics.. I saw a simelar aged LPG one with an engine management fault go for a bit more, and that one looked like a shed by comparison...

Depends when you are available, if you want to pop to Worcester or me to head south. I have the issue of too many children and a wife who gets stuck in the house.

I work in Inkberrow as well.

To be honest jobs only get done properly when a car is off the road so before you cannibalise the V6 get the mechanical bits sorted or you won't do them.

With a car that age it is so easy to spend a couple of hundred tidying it up, new belts, water pump ect, but if it is solid and will pass a few MOTs it is worth it.

You will need to clean the breathers quite often - usually when it stalls time to do it.

Budget consious people do go for the 2.0s so hold their value as well as the V6s

My auto would get low 20s on short runs, fast motorwaying high 20s, sensible motorwaying low to mid 30s.

ANyway I'm off to bed now

I'm off to bed too, thanks so much for the offer of looking it over for me...

I'm going to concentrate on getting an MOT, and then I will happily service it up with all it needs!!

I'll chat to you very soon about looking it over  :y

Apart from it appears to be missing 2 cylinders and about 70bhp, it looks like a bargain :)
