SWMBO has upgraded to a nice little Focus 1.6 Ghia which we collected at the weekend.  Ever the one to lavish care and attention on household cars I'll be off to WIM next Monday to have four new tyres and a geometry check while I'm there.

The current set of unmatched tyres seem to have some interesting uneven wear patterns so it will be interesting to see what Tony and all the machinery reveals.

I'm booked in for 09:00 so I'll get to enjoy the M25 too  .

Not even WIM's magic will help a friggin Focus go round corners properly.

Sorry, had one myself for 2 years, hated it. Typical Ford unpredictable/inconsistent handling.  I did find, however, if you drove it on the ragged edge all the time, handling was better. But just normal spirited driving, I hated it.

Yep, I accept that WIM can't weave that sort of magic, but she wanted a Focus and it was her money that was spent.

Anyway it's the tyres that are barely legal so they need changing and from my experience with WIM's work on the Mig I wouldn't trust anyone else.  Put simply it's worth sorting out the geometry so the Focus doesn't eat through tyres.

I know a few people with Focus's.  Broadly 75% love them, 25% agree with me about the handling.

Well IMO it goes round corners well enough from what little I've driven it, but I'm not sure I'll get on with it.  It's a manual and it's wrong wheel drive, which is why I miss my automatic, rwd, 3.0 V6  .

Well got back from WIM just after lunchtime.  The guys seemed quite busy today.  At least I came away with four new tyres and the geometry setup correctly; the front tyres were toed out quite a bit.

However a bit of a palaver was had on the tyres as they had only ordered two and not four, so I've ended up with a pair of W rated tyres (instead of Vs) on the back axle as they had them in stock.

Still, £369 inc. VAT for four tyres and the geometry check isn't bad.
