Merc Vans
« on: 24 March 2009, 15:29:54 »

Anybody have any experience of Mercedes vans?  At work we have 3 311 CDI vans with out custom bodys on the back.  They seem to have no end of problems with sensors, every few months they are needing the air mass meter resetting and one has just had a new boost sensor and air mass meter with only 42k on the clock.  Not to mention the numerous starter motors, one auto gearbos, plenty of autobox faults and countless trips into limp home mode.

When I knew we were getting Mercs I was happy as the alternative was transits which are aweful but I am so surprised at the amount of downtime they have!  Maybe they just dont build them like they used to?  All I Can say is that I am glad most of it is warrenty and that after it runs out I wont have to pay the bill for it!

Cheers,

Richard

Always found them pretty reliable, and fast!

That said, there was a fault on the early ones with the pump IIRCC :-/ :-/

Interestingly, I found the Merc and Vw vans some of the worst from a riving perspective....

Meant in general: Vitos rust, are unreliable etc. Preaty much anything in that class was better than Vito. I have to admit, I am talking about first generation can't comment on the current model. Must be better

You should try VW T4 2.5 or 2.8 petrols - as long as you can manage not to even think about petrol

unfortunately the badge sets customer expectations, having worked for mercs for a number of years I can honestly say they are no better or worse than any other main stream van
