Just watching it on Sky 2

Why is it that the cops nick or warn most people about bad language but feel free to often use it on TV and whilst screaming at a criminal as they nick them.

The Police do a fantastic job (unless they are nicking us then they are to****s lol) but if they are so highly trained then isnt the bad lanuage they use out of order whilst making an arrest?

off topic but on road wars on sky, have you noticed on the external shots they show an Omega, but the car they use now is a VeccyC 3.2

The one I was watching that prompted this thread was when they had to chase a lad and when they were caught they shouted a few times to get on the F***ing  floor.

It's like the cops I see in town, parked facing the wrong way on double yellows with no lights on at night on a main road.  Others that use the blue lights to get past traffic and then turn them off to find the car parked outside a takeaway 5 mins later.

If they led by example (at all times) then I believe there would be a lot more respect for them and the law.  Practice what they Preach as to speak.

an interesting view...lets make police like robots! How many times a day does the average person swear....quite a lot i'm guessing.

swearing itself is not an arrestable offence...only when its directed at another in public and/or used with aggressive behaviour does it then become an issue.

swearing by police in the example used is acceptable..its all about dominating the situation/subject...would you prefer them to say"oh excuse would you mind awfully if you stopped fighting for a minute and laid on the floor, many thanks"

I agree Police should lead by example but come on the old blue light so you can get home for tea is a load of rubbish. perhaps and i know its hard to believe, they may have just been cancelled for the job they were attending???

I understand your point but I havent posted this thread baded on the one TV issue, I have witnessed a lot of things myself that I cant or wont print on a forum, but I will stand by what I say regards the lanuage, if the Police dont like us using it at all they they should do the same, even during an arrest.  They keep harping on about being highly trained but when they are screaming swear words during an arrest I actually view that the same as the red mist they some times suufer during a car chase.  One of which they chased a guy driving a jag, they squeezed him agaisnt the wall and as they dragged hime out (at least 4 officers involved) one of them seemed into to use his baton excessivly.

I agree they have to act on instict, and not every case will be text book, but if you review each situation and look at the evidence then it will end up in court and thrown out on a technicallity one day, why, because the nasty policeman swore at me and called me a bas***d.  Hence my point of operate with in the law, they lead and hopefully others will follow.

It may surprise some of you, but not all of us swear. I stopped swearing when I was about 25. Previous to that I would only swear at work etc. and with people of roughly the same age as myself. I would never dream of swearing in front of an older person or my kids.

I stopped because when walking to our local shops one day a group af kids about 16 where swearing there heads off, just to get a reaction I believe. And they actually looked pathetic. And it dawned on me that swearing like that in public is wrong, so I just stopped. Even when telling a joke I will substitute any swear words or just intimate the word.

Funnily enough if I watch a programmeon tv which has to much swearing in it I will turn over/off.

I would not lecture anyone on swearing, I do believe in live and let live, as long as I have the choice to not hear it.

I find swearing helps enormously when faced with eg an overtorqued wheel bolt..  usually does the trick for me

i understand that not everybody swears, in fact i hate hearing people swearing if out with wife/kids. i myself swear on occasion but only with friends/work colleagues of similar views and certainly not in ear shot of public.

My point was made simply to highlight that swearing itself is not an offence and you wouldn't expect Police to approach you if you were just talking to your friend and perhaps swore.....however if used with threatening behaviour or to the point members of the public or offended by it then yes an offence is committed.

I do not believe we can sit in our comfy chairs at home and criticise a Police Officer for swearing during the apprehension of a criminal, like i said its a tactic used to dominate the situation...saying that it shouldn't/wouldn't be used whilst detaining a shoplifter in a busy shopping mall!!

As for the over use of the baton..aint seen it so cant comment. IMHO its a waste of time anyway..might as well pick up a big twig

Roadwars Gives the police a bad name the force they use are PowerMad and i think that some of the featured pigs have serious attitude problems and a Customer service course is well overdue they also seem to use alot of excessive force making arrests

Traffic Cops on the BBC gives the police a good name
