Towards a Police state?
« on: 11 April 2009, 10:09:44 »

We are surely sleepwalking towards an 'Orwellian' nightmare of State and Police surveillance: wake up people!.......see what this anti civil-libertarian 'creep' is costing ALL of us.

Hopefully it will prove to be too expensive for the returns it gives.

It was very hit-and-miss to track cars on a busy road in my view.

I do not have a problem with this if it means more people being prosecuted for using their mobiles when driving or not concentrating for some other reason. I would even like drivers prosecuted for smoking behind the wheel because in order to light the cigarette they must have taken their eyes off the road & as for holding it while driving - that's no different from holding a phone.

Mass policing is no replacement for real time face to face encounters in terms of road safety --- only in terms of revenue collecting!

Call me old fashioned, but a bollicking from a uniformed Police Officer has, in my opinion, more effect on the motorist than an anonymous fine.

I can see that day, though, when we are all micro-chipped at birth and tracked by satellite for the rest of our lives !  Actually -- that's not such a bad idea ----- we can equip the satellites with high powered lasers and if the person being tracked is seen to be dropping a peanut on the road he can be safely and instantaneously vapourised from space!!!  :o

agree and disagree - had many a near miss from dropping a ciggy in the car which is vey bad but i think it is a complete civil libity issue if you try and tell me i can't smoke in my own car!

ps i've given up now but eat an apple on the way home instead, is that dangerous?

Driving an auto i only need one hand to drive so completely in control?

Yes! and leave the peanut there.  That is about what our current legislators are capable of. ;)

Our civil liberties ................and human rights ..............are slowly ...and Inexorably  being eroded Debs. :-/
Some people barely notice .......or care. :'( :'( :'( :'(
Take the perceived so called "terrorist threat"...................sure.... there are a small number of poorly organised malcontents out there.....................but I just do not see terrorism lurking in every dark alley and corner like the government would like us to believe. :-/

Terrorism .......is used by the government .......as a "fear tool".....in order to take away more .....and more ......of our human rights and civil liberties .....for our own protection.....BEWARE. :'( :'(
Old George ......could see it coming. :-/ :y :y :y :y :y :y :y

Yes, you are not in control of the vehicle & should have both hands on the wheel in the 'ten-to-two' position ads you were taught & were doing when you passed your driving test. You cannot use the Civil Liberty argument otherwise people would use it not the wear seat-belts, to use mobiles when driving or to let their dogs crap on pavements & in parks.

Still.............it's good to know that being given a "blow job" whilst driving ...........is still perfectly legal. ::) ::) ::) :P :y

It helped kill both my Grandads ....... we'll see if we can get smoking banned completely. It'll never happen!
I thought we were talking about smoking at the wheel.  :-? As you've never smoked how can you state that it's dangerous at the wheel? It takes no longer to glance at the fag lighter than it does your speedo, or do your eyes never leave the view of the front screen?   :-/
