Skype
« on: 13 April 2009, 20:31:34 »

Decided to try the Skype thingumywotsit this afternoon.
Downloaded Skype and bought a Logitech QuickCam E3500 webcam with built in mic for £19.99 at Maplins. No need for headphones and mic, I'm using my PC speakers

Robert's your fathers brother  :y

Just had a video call with my mate in Patagonia, and I must say I'm quite impressed.  Clear, smooth running (for want of a better description) images and the audio quality is excellent.

The installation process runs through your e-mail contacts and sets up any contacts that have Skype. Only three of my contacts use Skype.
It is so easy to set up and use, don't know why it's not more popular.

More popular than you think.

A lot of us probably use it on here.  There is an option in the UserCP to add a Skype link.

I prefer to use a proper VoIP service, but Skype has a place.

Saying that, I've not used my Skype in ages

It has fundamental flaws, thats the reason I don't use it.

PC has to be on to receive calls.
The gateways are fabulously expensive to use

Yup, and something else to my Skype.

Hence I tend to use other VoIP services.
