£184 each month

Our mortgage has been on a fixed rate of 5.99% for the last two years. :-/ :-/
Today ,we received a letter from Bristol and West informing us ,that from next month we will be paying the SVR of 2.99% :y
This saves us £184 each month. :y :y :-* :-* :-*
We still have to pay over £700 each month,but it is welcome news in these hard times.

With low interest rates ,and falling house prices,it is a good time to buy.That is if the banks will lend. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Yes Richie and everything else which will have to increase in price to cover the monetary mess this present administration has landed us in. >:(  Now is the time for sitting tight ;)

Kept my re-payments based on just over 6%, reason is its an offset, so paying the extra has reduced the overal term from just under 20 years to just over 11 years in 14 months!!

That to me makes far more sense than reducing the payment by a couple of hundred £ for a few months

Means no shock for me when the rates go back up  :)

I'm being shafted every which way as I took out a 5 year fixed rate interest only mortgage 4 years ago, it's the only way we could afford to move in to our house !! Twastards.

I'm not far off that, and all we get here is our bins emptied 26 tines a year  >:(

Mine's fixed so no savings for me but at least i'm paying off a bit more every month & no nasty shocks later. An agreed amount over a given term means exactly that. Those saving now will be playing catch up later. My monthly repayment is less than a weeks wages. I'm safe. :y

I'm not far off that, and all we get here is our bins emptied 26 tines a year  >:(
I get mine both weekly but that's only because the Council had to buy a special, smaller truck that would fit down the narrow lanes in the district, otherwise they planned to make us revert to plastic bags (to which we objected vociferously)
Apart from that we get nothing for the money - no street sweeping, never seen a Copper (unless son-in-law visits off duty), I can't swim so don't use the pool, kids are 32 & 34 so don't attend school.
Perhaps Council Tax should be charged on what services are used by those who pay them?
