Our box has been a pain in the @rse recently. Doesn't ever seem to have EPG information when you want it. I think they've sent out a dodgy firmware drop.  >:(

All the boxes are preety cheap and nasty, and seem to have reliability problems after a while.

Usually sky are happy to replace then when you threaten to cancel...

Mine's had all the dodgy electrolytics changed for half decent caps. Problem seemed to start when they introduced automatic standby so I wonder if it goes into a deeper standby state now. Used to just stay on but disable the video output judging by the power consumption. ;D

Had the same problem a few weeks ago.  Posted to the forum and a member mentioned the standby thing.  Turned it off, has been fine sine.  (Turned off, as in the menu option for auto standby)  :y :y

I allways find as a last resort.... a full reset does the trick, bear in mind you lose your recorded items.

To perform a full reset and format the disk:
1) Switch off the box at the mains
2) Whilst holding down the left and right arrows on the front of the box (either side of the Select switch), power on the box. After a second or two, the Sky 'ring' will light.
3) hit the 'Select' button on the front panel - this will reformat the drive and reset the box. This can take a few minutes and the ring will 'whirl' backwards to show it's working.

or try a forced download

1. Unplug the box (the box only) from the mains
2. Wait 30 seconds
3. Plug back in, while holding the BACKUP button on the FRONT OF THE BOX.
Many people have held the button on the remote, therefore the update will not succeed
4. Wait about 20 seconds, until all 4/5 lights come on the front of the box, then release the backup button.
5. It will take about 7 minutes, and when it has finished.

Do they download this automatically ?

Can't risk a reset and lose recorded progs -- nothing on there that I want but the missus records some american day time soap -- if I lose those I'm a dead man  :o

Couple of thing that might help, every couple of months or at first sign of trouble,ie red button logos go missing, black or blue screens, odd hard drive behaviour... Pull the plug out, or just turn off the switch on the socket as i do koz the plugs behind a speaker. Leave it for 30 seconds and turn back on. Leave it till the green power light comes on. And away you go. It just re sets it nothing more.

Every single sky box we ever had has been exactly the same, bugs eventually. From the super fast panasonics of old to new hd boxes. All same ime.

If you want some house keeping for your hard drive, press services, system set up, then 01 select, at the bottom of the installer menu youll see sky+planner re build which will clear all the crap(failed recordings and empty titles, there will be some, press guide, right arrow, then yellow to list these...  not the soaps alas) out of your recordings list(recommended), and system reset which will wipe the lot(last resort).

Mine played up last week, re set sorted it.

As said, new higher def epg coming out soon, about time, similar to anytime tv but more so. New card also in post or summat.

updates should download automaticly. I beleive mostly over night when on stand by, so leave it on auto stand by setting or you may miss it and have to force it, have lost recordings this way once or twice.
