Is it me or was there annother thread earlier today where a member was caught doing 116Mph.  I cant find the thread,  :-/

Yes mate there is another thread as mentioned although the circumstances of that are different.

That was a guy in an Omega getting caught and stopped by a police car

Yes, you are right in my opinion Albitz, as knowing the M4, and many other motorways very well, doing that speed at 1500 on any afternoon would be achieved in heavy traffic, which makes it all highly dangerous. :-X :-X :-X

120 mph at 0300 is a completely different ball game, as then it is usually just you placed at risk, although on the M4 you have still got HGV's operating in large numbers, as we have on the M20 locally. ::) ::) ::)

Yep Lizzie I agree to an extent too, but laws are laws and 120mph isnt even close to the limit so theres no excuse really........

At the end of the day, the main person a motorcyclist is putting at risk doing that speed on a motorway is him/her self !!!

i wouldnt want to be the one picking up the body parts.

From what i know of the mobile speed enforcement van, they only have one camera which is fixed at oncoming traffic to detect speed and collect the necessary evidence ie reg number plus possible identification of driver (not always possible).

Without the supporting evidence of reg number a prosection would not be possible for obvious reasons.

There are certain exemptions to the 14 day NIP timescale for example if you are driving a lease/hire vehicle they have up to 6 months to trace the driver..as i found out in Feb 2005 after being caught doing 85mph on a m/way in Wales Aug 2004

Guys Guys,   I have made a mistake in my original post,   It was not a van, It was a motorbike police guy with the speed camera,    


Will this make any difference ? ?

Very much doubt it, these are simply laser speed detectors which give the speed on a display and the officer would then stop the vehicle and either issue a fixed penalty notice or report for summons.

An NIP would not usually be issued as there would be no supporting evidence as with the camera in the van which provides a photograph/video.

Actually, I think they have to send it so that it would "normally" reach you within 14 days so a couple of extra days to account for the post, and a bank holiday, etc. and you're OK.

Unlikely that you your mate'd be identified front-on on a bike anyway.

A fair enough point Ms Zoom however, I had a back tyre blow at an indicated 115mph in an unmarked BMW - on official business - before anyone asks :-X and I have to say that I could have done without the fright. :o :o Even with all the training, good fortune plays a large part in the outcome.  I was kucky, the m road was reasonably clear at the time.

Speed was managable once but today, there are just too many people driving with their attention directed elsewhere, rather than the task at hand. :D

Excess speed will kill every time - if you luck runs out :y :y
