They are going through all the haulage firms first, driver by driver. As regards the folk who hold & use an HGV for private use i'll ask next week or you might want to try googling it to get the right answers & peace of mind.
I'd advise anyone not to ignore it, you may have to resit your test. :-/

Correct me if I'm wrong truckers, but I seem to remember my dad driving his lorry on an ordinary driving license. When the HGV came in, someone sat in the cab with him for a while and then said "How long you been doin this mate?"

My dad said "Thirty years"

"You've passed"

I'm a hgv1 driver, already got my nvq level 3, not hard really, but obviously, if you haven't got it, and don't know about it, it can be a bit of a shock.
Found this link, might put some light on it...

That does not seem to suggest it is compulsory though, certainly not going to take a test again, if I loose it I loose it. Will have a chat with the 'company' transport manager, they might put me through, better get some practice driving in first though ::)

Still got a PSV and more useful for PT work anyway.

I know it is going to be compulsary, but not really sure when but tbh it's just another backdoor tax from the goverment really.
Same as your digital tacho and license having a lifespan, having to be renewed after soo many years.  :( :(

It's only a day with an accessor & a few common sense answers. Costs nothing. He did'nt mind me smoking & drinking coffee on the way so if you need to do it you may as well to keep your licences. ::)

So this may be more 'work related' rather than licence related, need to look further into this. I don't, and never really have driven trucks for a living, (a few months in 1985 on tippers)  just extra weekend work, same with Coachs. :)

This is all new to me, i would have thought that all HGV licence holders would have been notified as to the plans but i for one have not herd a thing untill now, it seems very strange to me, i already hold my CPC so dont need a micky mouse piece of paper which is worthless,  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Agreed, been talking to a couple of HGV drivers today, older guys and they were not aware of the impending loss of licence.... :) Brother and sister in law both hold HGV, sister in law recently, for their Horse Box. There is no organisation that oversees such use of HGV, other than DVLA :)
horsebox should be safe to drive without nvq or cpc as long as it is not being driven for "hire or reward"
