Chipping a Tractor
« on: 12 May 2009, 02:10:44 »

Anyone thinking about chipping their Tractor...don't bother !!!

Yep, don't bother thinking about it...JUST DO IT !!  :y

Chipped mine tonight, and what a difference. Took it out for a 20 mile test on M4, A-roads and through town, with a mixture of sensible(ish) driving but hard accelleration (the novelty will wear off, no doubt)  through the gears.
It's showing 55mpg.  :o

I was happy getting 40mpg in not far off Driving Miss Daisy mode on my weekly mixture of town and A-roads, with the odd M4 run. Can't believe I pondered over it for so long.
Well pleased, to say the least.  :)

N.B, Manuals just need chipping, but an auto will need an autobox up-grade.  I learnt this the hard way a few years ago.
Great fun for 2 days...then 3rd gear went A.W.O.L  ::)

Although it does improve MPG, I reckon the FC overreads by somewhere between 10-15% when chipped, so don't think 55mpg is a true figure.  But, as said, in my experience, chipping improved MPG by a good margin :)

Yeah the MID is very optimistic after chipping, but my average is high 30's and venturing into the 40's on a run.

When the novelty of planting you right foot wears off you will see the gains then  ;)

I still love giving it large now and then though, catches some people out!

It's 100%, bang on, no shadow of a doubt, accurate ! (Look...it's a psychological thing  ::))

I'll have to do a proper "fill to the brim...drive...fill to the brim" to get an accurate consumption.
